side effects of schizo medications Posted: 03-10-08 15:11pm
I've been taking risperdal for many years
now and I know exactly what effects these
pills have on a person. These pills are
not some magical cure that fixes the
problem completely, don't get me wrong
though, If your goal isn't dying a
horrible death I would probably go ahead
and take them. But let us not leave out
any truths about them, they will make you
ill, yes they do hurt your brain, they
affect your memory, they effect your
energy levels, MY BRAIN IS NOW SWELLING, I
need alot of ibprofen so my head doesn't
hurt so much and i act crazy because of
it, and my retarded family thinks its the
schizophrenia, hmm could it be my brain
swelling maybe, that would probably make
you act a little strange also huh.
The truth of the matter is pills actually
suck, alot of suckiness. But it is
actually at this point and time our very
best option, take your pills! If I hadn't
taken them I would be dead right now!
There actually are a whole heap of bad
points about the pills, but its either
that or go crazy and die for most of us.
So take the pills! You'll probably be
glad that you did.

woops, I agree with you about taking
medication. As far as your brain swelling
- have you had a work up done with your
doctor about the headaches? Do you
actually have swelling in your brain? This
can occur but it is doubtful the
medication is causing it. Usually there
are other reasons for this. Speak to your
doctors about these headaches. They should
not be ignored and can be treated. Many
people with mental disorders can have
migraine headaches. They are frequently
seen together. You do not have to suffer
with this. There are many medications to
help you.
I am sorry that your family is not
understanding about your headaches. I hope
you will talk to your doctor and get some
treatment for them. Life stinks when you
have headaches all the time. Hugs.

Meds for these forms of disorders is
always a major head-ache (if you pardon
the pun ). They always
seem to offer relief from one symptom but
there is always a price to pay in the
end... When changing meds it is however
VERY important to keep your doctor up-to
date in terms of any strange/abnormal
feelings. The first thing I usually do,
when given new meds (even if it's just a
cheaper generic that the pharmacist is
kind enough to point out to me), is to
read the little leaflet that comes in the
box so I know what kind of "acceptable"
side-effects to expect and what
undesireable effects needs to be watched
out for...
For instance, I would have been totally
freaked out by the metallic taste in my
mouth due to the Urbanol I recently
started taking, if I hadn't read the
pamflet before hand which states that it
is a common and benign side-effect. I
would have thaught I had some sort of
internal nasal/throught bleeding as it
tastes just like blood.
You definately need to talk to your doctor
as antigone suggested...Any
anti-inflammatory drug can be hazardous to
your health if used for a prolonged
period. I can also attes to what antigone
says about migraine's...even though I
suffer more from the visual-distortion
side of it rather than the head-ache.
As for family...you will find that for
most mental problems, NO one can fully
comprehend/understand what you are going
through unless they have been through it
them selves. People who deal with others
on a daily basis that has these form of
problems tend to be much more
understanding as they have experience to
know that it is not just something you
"cooked up" but a very real illness.
Therefor, when all others ignore your pain
and suffering...come vent on the
forum...And like antigone rightly pointed
out to me ...you are here to
get support and to give support in
return...
And even though I am not in precisely the
same mental boat as you are, know that I
understand what you are going through.
All of the best!
