Q: Lesions as a sign of herpes outbreak
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 20th, 2009
Hello,in mid-Nov.I had some kind of vaginal infection which didn't receive treatment for. The top of my labia(in the fold of skin to the right side of the clitoral hood) was very itchy and I had a smelly, heavier than usual vaginal discharge.I figured it was yeast or some bact/fungal infection and would clear up.It DID clear up on its own after a couple weeks. Each day at that time I looked at the itchy area and saw 2-3 very small circular holes.2 of them are tiny-pin-prick-sized holes. The 3rd is slightly larger in diameter.None of them are very deep, they are just below the surface of the skin,as if the skin was slightly broken.Im wondering what might might have caused this. It's now middle of Feb. and these marks are still in the area. My vagina is normal again-no itch, discharge, smell, but these breaks are still there?Might they be permanent? Can vaginal infections cause this to happen to the skin?I've heard yeast/fungus/bact.can cause this.I also have herpes with about 1-2 outbreaks/yr.

It is hard to say what the lesions are without seeing them. According to the data you provided and assuming that the herpes outbreaks were located in the vaginal area and were manifested with blisters instead of genital warts, the lesions in the skin might be caused by the herpes blisters you might have had during the outbreaks. If you have ever seen scars from chicken pox, compare them to your lesions. If they look similar to herpes lesions, then they are the most probable cause. They are scars and do not need any treatment. In case you are unsure, you might want to visit a dermatologist who will recognize the lesions.
