Hi. Im 37 years old and I had a L5-S1 disc herniation. I had a discectomy in order to relieve the leg pain ( as nothing else worked). I was completely immobile for about 5 months and on MS Contin (morphine) 24 hours per day. I could not work or walk etc.. After the surgery, I had complete relief of the leg pain. I started taking walks as soon as I felt I could, as instructed by the doctor. I| havent yet driven or returned to work. About 2 weeks after surgery the same pattern of leg pain re-appeared. A shooting and throbbing pain down my calf and into my heel. I have tried to reach the doctor and he has not yet returned my call. I'm reading about this all over the internet and I think I'm going nuts! I dont think that scar tissue would have developed that quickly. I can only think that the disc is re-herniated or perhaps I started doing too much and the nerve is still weak??
This has consumed my life for a year now and I was so happy after the surgery. Has this ever happened to anyone? Please help! Thanks

it took 4 for me to get to the point i am now i am same age and had my firs when i was 30 had 3 right after each other what happened was i had disc fragments break off and that was causing the pain and it did not show up on mri it was when they went back in after much coaxing from me that tey saw this. the docs did not believe me when i said i still hurt and passed me around till i found one who took me serious . dont stay where they dont believe you. now i will hurt the rest of my life but the sciatic pain is less and pressure is off everywhere but pain is always going to be a factor. good luck and ask anything you want to know been through this since 2001
