My Parents don't think Its epilepsy they say that there not seizures but just episodes. i'm 18 years Old I started having my Attacks back November 1st 2007. What happens is I hear this humming noise and it eventually gets louder and louder and drowns out all the noise around me then I feel my self falling but can't do anything about it and just before I hit the ground I blackout and it usually only last about a minute or two but I have had at least 6-7 since November. I have been put on lamo-trigine 37.5 mg's 1 and a half in the morning and 1 at night I haven't had an attack since August about a week ago I went to see my neurologist and he said that they found on the eeg that I had a Left temporal Lobe flux and right then and there he said I had epilepsy. I am the youngest out of 4 kids my older siblings don't have any seizures the only person who does is my mom who has grand mal epilepsy. Threw the last almost 3 years I have had every test done I have had eeg's mri's ct's and echo cardiograms to rule out a heart problem I have had sleep deprived EEG's I heard about a surgery called temporal lobectomy and I was wondering what that entailed like I have read only 2% of patients have ever had lasting side effects but I know that you first have to be eligible to have the surgery done and if so am I?

Sorry to hear what you are going through! My husband and I were just told after spending 7 days in an epilepsy monitoring unit, that my husband has frontal left lobe epilepsy. His first (tonic clonic) seizure was in 2005 and we are finally getting an official diagnosis. The plan now is to have several tests conducted to confirm he is a good candidate for temporal lobe surgery. I would love to help you any way I can. We know how it feels to be misunderstood, misdiagnosed, frustrated and detached. Please write me.
Alex
