Hello!
Each month a couple days before my menstrual cycle begins I develop a pain in my left side/back, under my rib cage, that sometimes worsens to an intense stabbing feeling that radiates through to the front. The front is also tender, and if I press anywhere on the left side of my abdomen it aggravates the stabbing feeling in my back. The pain also sometimes radiates into the groin area and feels connected to a burning sensation in my vaginal cavity. This burning is a very different feeling from that of a UTI (which I have experienced before), as it is more throbbing in conjunction with the severity of the pain radiating from by side/abdomen. Typically by the time my cycle is in full force the pain fades away. It can be very debilitating, but has also been just mild.

The doctors I have spoken with regarding this issue typically assume it is a UTI and give me an antibiotic, but I struggle to believe I am consistently getting an infection each month right before my cycle. I do not wish to put so my antibiotics in my body so I have come to just bear with the pain, but there must be a cause and some other treatment.

Has anybody experienced similar pains or have an idea on what may be triggering this? Your time is greatly appreciated.

left side pain near period
I experience the same thing! I have been to several doctors and they say I have IBS, and my pain is caused by stress. But I get the pain even when I am not stressed and I get it every month 3-4 days before my period. I also get it on random occasions. It is exactly as you describe, on my left side up under my rib cage. I do not have the burning sensation but it is tender to touch. Have you found any answers to what may be causing this?

I have this some months also. Sometimes debilitating and its hard to get out of bed, other times its mild and not bothersome at all. When I have the pain it hurts to have sex. I have had a child and my tubes are tied so I can only assume its tied to my period and menstrual cycle some how. I too have rarely felt the burning sensation.

me too!
I have this too! I have had 3 c-sections and a tubal. The pain is also a pain on my upper left side and radiates to the back and even sometimes down to my groin. Sometimes its crampy like flank pain but most of the time it is a stinging pain from my ribs down as far as where my belly button is. It acts up just before my period, towards the end of my period, and then sporadically throughout the month. I had an ultrasound and found nothing wrong/nothing new. I do have a benign mass (called an adenomyoma) inside the left side of my uterine lining. It is small but it does cause some pain, aching, however not as bad as what I have been experiencing the past few months. My doctor said there is a good chance, based on all my surgeries, that I have lots of scar tissue on my organs, even possibly up to my colon, that cannot be seen on an ultrasound. Right now my options are pain meds, hormones (no thanks), or laproscopic hysterectomy to remove scarring, my uterus, and one ovary. But what would this help if the scaring is on other organs, besides the reproductive ones - will it ever really stop, even with surgery?

lower left side back pain VERY PAINFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This has been a medical issue for me for the past 6 months I have one child my tubes are not tied I do have the IUD and about 3 days before my period it starts in my lower left back under the ribs it feels like I am having contractions and when the pain happens it HURTS BAD then it goes away then comes again its totally random in that area. The doctors have told me that it is just inflammed during my period and its normal. However the pain is scrutiating and comes and goes in waves like contractions. Advil does work but I have to take 4. The pain is exactly the same as everybody on this forum. I too have been told that it is IBS and I have also had Rectacele repair. Due to giving labor I got rectacele which is when the lining to your rectum pertrudes out your vagina. so I had to have that surgically fixed. VERY PAINFUL.I thought I was totally alone and I cannot figure out why I have it. It only comes a lil bit before my period during and a lil after too but any other times I dont have it. Thanx everybody for making me feel like im not the only one with this problem. Smile good luck to everybody with this pain. :)If ANYBODY has some insight that would be greatly appreciated!

I have had those exact symptoms, with the difference being my pains would start 1 week before my period. Two months ago I was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst. I have private health insurance, so luckily I was in to have the cyst removed very quickly. Unfotunately I'm having same symptoms so am due to find out if I have another cyst next week. Perhaps your GP could refer you for an ultrasound to diagnose or rule out ovarian cysts? Hope u find out soon!
