Mother diagnosed with Stage III Ovarian Cancer at age 35 in 1985. Went into remission. Cancer came back all over body. Died just after 39th b-day in 1988.

Me: Female 31 years old. History of ovarian cysts. On B/C for the better part of 14 years. I have never had an abnormal pap.

I have had a pain in my left side for over well a year now. New PCP ignored until about 7 months ago and ordered ultrasound. It cam e back "clean"

Period was late in March and when new Nuva ring was inserted at end of week off period accelerated in heaviness. Called doctor on call one week later still bleeding heavily. On call Dr said "nothing can be done is BC". Knowing I have never had ANY problem like this before on BC I went to ER. They refered me to OBGYN.

Period was had been going for 4.5 weeks, albeit at a a slower pace, when I saw the OBGYN.

OBGYN performed pap and sent me for ultrasound. Pap came back abnormal. Ultrasound came back showing a mass behind my left ovary and an MRI was ordered and will be performed this week. Cervical biopsy was taken on area that looked abnormal during Colposcopy and sent in for testing.

Pain has not stopped.

Results are given to me May 1 when I go in to OBGYN next.

How worried do I need to be right now?

What topics should I be researching in the meantime?

Are there further tests I need to be asking for? Anything more I should be doing?

I understand that not knowing/waiting is the hardest part! Googling, searching for your own diagnosis, is worse. There is so much misinformation and general rubbish on the internet, it is hard to know what you need to know based on the little bit of information you have.

I'm glad you are seeing an OB/GYN, since they are far better prepared to deal with anything girly related than your average family doctor.
