Q: Left Ovary Pain

I'm eighteen years old, and I'm not sure what's up at this point.

My usual period: lasts 4 days, and it's light in flow, and usually, no cramps accompany it.

However, I had no period in October. In November, my left ovary was aching me about 2 days before my period, and then when it came, it was excruciating pain. The flow was extremely heavy (usually I go through a single tampon about every 4-5 hours, and sometimes it wouldn't be saturated- I'd take it out because it was too long)and I had to change myself about every hour, and it felt as if I was bleeding from my ovary too. It lasted for two days. On the second day, it was brown blood. Other symptoms were nausea, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, and I was pretty cold despite the temperature being at 75. I've never had any sexual relations, either, so that rules out pregnancy.

Then, no period for December. It's two days before my January period- same symptoms as above for about two days.

Also, some other unusual symptoms have occurred:
- Acne. I never had a large breakout of acne until about October. My mother suggested it was the water- but when I went home for my month long break fro college, my acne actually got worse.

- Excessive need to pee. Like, every two hours or even less at times. Not sure when it first started, but I remember it around early December, maybe late November.

Ovary pain
I'm not a doctor, but two things to suggest and a recommendation.

First off, sometimes when an egg releases, you can feel it and it may be painful. This is normal.

Second, not knowing your age (none of my business) or health circumstances, you may be experiencing changes in your cycle as well. This can be normal for women during different times (seasons) of their life and under certain circumstances (like stress, dietary changes, etc.)

My final word would be that if your period remains irregular and the bleeding excessive and lengthy, and you aren't under any stress, haven't had any major changes to your health, diet, weight, and your not under 20 or over 40, you should see a gynecologist ASAP! Wink

speaking from experience with some painful ovulation, I don't think the pain you had in your ovary was from the release of an egg if you got your period 2 days later. You're 18 so it could just be that your periods are changing. If it continues to worry you then see your doctor to get piece of mind Smile
