Hi. I'm 61 years old and had a ceramic on ceramic total hip replacemt just over 2wks ago, I must be honest I feel fantastic, but when can I start weightbearing? also can I do any exercises to help. I noticed people use a bike to strengthen their muscles so when can I use that (stationery one of course). Sorry if I sound lke I,m moaning but you do seem to come out of hospital very quick with orders that don't register at such an early time.
I agree - I was discharged with no pysio appointments or anything. You need to know if your implant was cemented or not. With cemented you can pretty well weight bear from the start with non-cemented it is advisable to allow some time for the bone to grow into the implant - and the person to ask is your surgeon.
If I remember correctly (and I should have kept a diary)I was partially weight-bearing from day 1 and using 1 crutch only on day 2. After that I gradually transfered more and more weight onto the operated leg as I could manage. I reckoned if didn't want me to do that they'd have told me. I didn't start using a static bike till about 3 months post-op but I was fully weight bearing before then. Sorry not to be a clear answer but its your surgeon or physio that should be advising.
best of luck
ps i had uncemented - ceramic - great hip!
