Given the data you provided (symptoms of lower back pain, pain in hip, age), you might be experiencing scoliosis. Scoliosis is a condition in which the spine is unusually curved to the left or right side. The spasm of the muscles in the vicinity might put some pressure on the nerves that leave the vertebral column at that part.
Assuming that the curvature is in the lumbar part of the spine, you might be experiencing neural symptoms (numbness, tingling sensations) along the lower back, buttocks, hip and/or down the leg. Which area would be affected depends on the exact location of the curvature.
You might want to visit your family doctor or orthopedist for physical exam and X-ray.
