Q: Left arm numbness - Anxiety ?

I'm 21 and have had anxiety since my first panic attack at age 16. I do not always have anxiety it comes in waves so it will be very bad for a month or so then it will go away for a few months and so on so forth. After the 2nd time I went to the hospital from a panic attack that made me think I was going to die I realized I needed to get a hold of my anxiety. In the recent months I have been able to calm myself down with breathing techniques when I get to that climax of a panic attack.

Numbness is a symptom of panic attacks I have been dealing with for 3 years. I know that it is partially due to hyperventalation. However my numbness usually is only in the left arm, left leg and left side of my face, which as you can imagine can be very scary. It starts in my face and arm and if it is really bad it will spread to my leg. I have had a chest x ray, ekg and all that and it turns out I'm fine which is good. The numbness is also increased signifigantly on days following a night of drinking alcohol. Aching and pain is also associated in my left arm with these symptoms. It can't be a heart attack obviously because I'm always fine the next day when my symptoms go away. Regardless of the fact that I know now it won't kill me it is still VERY annoying and I have not got a straight answer as to why I feel numbness and pain in one side of my body. Every where I look I find that those are always symptoms of a serious condition. If anyone has any insight on to how this is happening and whether or not I should be concerned I would appreciate it very much!!! Thanks in advance.

Anxiety
I have never really experienced these problems until recently, but for awhile I had been feeling numbness in the left side of body (mainly my left leg). I am a marijuana user, so I assumed it was maybe a body high or I was just physching myself out. But I noticed I'd been feeling this way even when I hadn't smoked any. The other night when I was driving I experienced out of control breathing and my left arm went tingly and completely numb. I tripped out so bad that I almost drove off the road in a panic. My mother offered me a pill called Lorazapem, Which is appperently for anxiety and also given to those who are depressed. I havn't tried taking it yet because I am not one for depending or relying on pills. Do any of you recommend this drug...?

Is it anxiety...if so i have no clue why!?
Sunday I was typing on my computer and my hands locked up after about 20 minutes. It went away, but a few hours later my hands started tingling again and then shooting pains, could not straighten them out. Next, my calves cramped in my legs and I had tightness around my mouth, could not talk, & was breathing heavily. By this point my husband drove me to the ER & I could not walk. They ran blood work, told me I had a panic/anxiety attack and gave me handout on hyperventilation & script for lorazapem. The meds worked ok, helped me sleep, but I really didn't like the way they made me feel. I still don't know what happened to my hands...that happened 2x's that day and a month earlier(doc said then I had soft tissue injury from golfing) and I didn't hyperventalate then? I did have a wild weekend of drinking w/ my sister and not a lot of sleep...did this make my hands lock up? I was diagnosed w/fibromalgia in 2001, but don't think it is related? Any ideas...was this really an anxiety issue?

Please help!
My dad of 62 was placed on Paxil for panic attacks approx 2 yrs ago, after he was first laid off for the first time, and has just been laid off again, for the second time, which might be permanent as a union laborer. He's still on his Paxil and he just experienced numbness in his left arm, following a stressful period he and my retired mother experienced w/ having their electric shut off by their local RG&E provider from the pole since the wires were hot and now they have to bring in an electrician. The real issue is that my dad is a hoarder and they have a huge cleanup first before they'll allow an electrician in to do any work to restore their electric and may not be able to do it themselves and I'm sure are feeling overwhelmed. Obviously, all of this is stressing my dad out.
He now says his numbness has subsided within 30 mins or so, but I'm concerned!
Should I force him to go to the ER NOW even though???? (which will be a 2 hr drive down there and literally forcing him to even go, if I'm even successful)
Helpless 2 hour away daughter w/ my stubborn and isolated, hermit like dearly LOVED, parents!
Please help, any INTELLIGENT advice is appreciated!!!!!
