Q: Leaking after period and bad smell
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 1st, 2009
I know I am approaching the menopause it terms of my age but this is of great concern to me: My last period was 11 days ago but I am still 'leaking' and there is a smell like bad teeth. Is this just a symptom of the menopause or is this something else. I feel embarrassed & feel that others can smell me. Please help.

Hello and welcome to eHealth Forum!

At the age of 46, bleeding per vagina persisting for 15 days or more can be due to a fibroid, a polyp, hyperplasia or overgrowth of uterine lining or cancer of the endometrium of uterus. If thre is a bad odor then it can be due to thrush or bacterial vaginosis.

A PAP smear is a must along with abdominal ultrasound. Thyroid levels must be tested and so also other hormones. Please consult your gynecologist as a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net. Hope this helps. Take care!
