My brother had an appendectomy two wks back, after 3days he was given rice to eat. Pains developed after a while then pus and water/blood followed. He has been on antibiotic since then but the leakage is still coming out large. Doctor recommended octraotide injection now, I dont know how that can help him cos he is beginning to feel very week. Kindly advise.

Hi,

Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am really glad to help you out. I can understand the pain and agony your bother is going through. There’s a possibility of him having an underlying infection. This is one of the commonest complications which can occur during the post-operative period.

This can vary from a minor infection of the stitch line to the formation of a fistula. You definitely need to consult a doctor/surgeon . He will likely need another course of antibiotics or a re-exploration of the wound. An ultrasound or a CT scan may help in ruling out the presence of an underlying abscess (collection of pus).

I sincerely hope this information helps. Take care.
