I think it's ok to put the baby on his tummy as long as he likes it. I know they think that laying the baby down on his back is better because tummy means sids, but then there are people who say that the back sleeping isn't ok because they will choke on their own spitup. 4 month old babies are old enough to raise their heads well enough if they are in a situation where then cannot breath. Just makes sure he sleeps on a hard mattress and doesn't have any thick blankets or plush animals that would suffocate him.

At 4 months babies usually start rolling over, so if you want to put him on his tummy, then I' say go for it. If you aren't comfortable with either way, you can lie him on his side with a blanked rolled up behind him as a booster and so he won't roll on to his back. I have done with with some of my newborns and they did this at the NICU where my son was too.

Chances are though your baby is going to take his own sleeping position soon no matter what way you put him down Smile

Midwifes always bring out new ways in which you should put your child to sleep. Years ago, they told you to put your baby on its tummy and tuck it up nice and cosy. Now they say on their back and foot to foot position. But if it helps, i don't see a problem with it. William always used to roll on his tummy as a newborn and there was nothing i could do and it didn't hurt him.

So sorry to hear that! My babies love their carseats and spend a lot of time in them.

I hope your baby is happy and all better now.
