Q: Late period and light spotting
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 11th, 2009
I am TTC My cycle has been 28 days for the last three months that we have been trying. Today is November 11 my period was suppose to come November 9. I had really lite spotting on the 9th, and today spotting but more and mainly brown and red. I took a home test on the 10th it was negative. Should I retest soon, make a Dr apt, or is this my period.?? I have had some cramping and bloating for a week, headache and backache. Breast feel swollen. A little nausea not much.
Thank you
Heather

Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth's Ask a Doctor forum.

This should be taken as a normal period as the pregnancy test was negative. The consistency of period may vary depending on whether you went off the pill, are under some stress etc. Some women do have light periods for first three months. So you can repeat the test after a week but don’t add too much hope to it.

You have just started trying for the baby. You can wait for a period of one year and try on your own since your cycle is regular. If you still do not conceive, you will need to seek the advice of an expert.

All the best! You may be pregnant this time or in near future.
