My boyfriend and I have been having unprotected sex for almost a year, I've never shown any signs of pregnancy; however, this month I have felt gassy and very sharp pains throughout my body. My period is around a 30 day cycle, but it's now 3 almost 4 days late. I keep feeling as though I'm getting my period but every time I go check it's nothing. My boyfriend's sperm has always been clear and watery, so I thought that he and I could not have children, since a year has gone by and nothing. I don't understand why my period is late, it's never been late, and I feel really sick. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative. What does this all mean.

Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth forum!

Repeat the test after a week. At times ovulation gets delayed causing a late period. So if periods do not come for a week, retest. If this is negative then go for a blood pregnancy test. If this too is negative then other causes of delayed or missed periods will have to be looked at such as stress whether emotional or physical, hypothyroidism (this you already have), polycystic disease of the ovary, pituitary tumors secreting prolactin, anemia and poor diet, hormonal imbalance, unexplained or sudden weight gain or weight loss. You will need to consult a gynecologist for this. Hope this helps. Take care!
