There are different types of laser eye surgery. LASIK - laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis – is one of the most common. Many patients who have LASIK end up with 20/20 vision. But, like all medical procedures, it has both risks and benefits.

Here's a directory of studies on LASIK, overview and results.

The primary NIH organization for research on Laser Eye Surgery is the National Eye Institute.

LASIK
An ophthalmologist will apply a spatially varying correction, guiding the computer-controlled excimer laser with measurements from a wavefront sensor. This will help achieve a more optically perfect eye. Because of that "custom" directed techninque, 99 % of the procedures are successful. I have never heard of LASIK going wrong.

laser eye surgery
i had my surgery in august 2008 and i am soooo plesaed with the results, i was -7.5 in both eyes before the surgery and now i have better than 20:20 vision. It is an extremely scary process and the results are not instantaneous, despite what they say. Yes you can "see" clearer immediately but you dont feel back to normal for at least 6 weeks, your eyes get tired very quickly and in the first couple of days can really be quite painful, well more itchy than painful.I shopped around and went to two different clinics to get a feel for which i was most comfortable with. I think you should do this so you can compare what is on offer from different clinics. I also read up on the internet, but dont do this too much as people prefer to write about the negatives more than the positive experiences. I went for treatment with Ultralase, which was more expensive that alternatives, but cost is not the issue, it is who you feel confident with and who you feel with give you the treatment you want. I would recommend anyone who is very short sighted to go for this treatment, i had been since i was 16 and i am now 41,i had really had enough of wearing contacts and glasses, you dont realise how restricting they are until you dont need them anymore. As with everything its not for everyone, so do you research, go for the free consultations, dont feel pressurised to make an on the spot decision, go away consider your options and make a choice based on what makes you feel comfortable.

Lasik, at least according to my friend, is the best. He had it 8 years ago and hasn't regretted it at all.

I just had lasik a few months ago and so far so good!! I was surprised at the recovery time...I only missed a day of work.

I have to admit, I was super nervous, but the staff at Nationwide Vision were great and eased my mind. The aftercare was amazing as well.

If you are considering it, I recommend talking to them. You will love the results.
