Q: Large intestines?

My son as a baby would cry everytime he had a bowel movement. The doctor at that time told me he had extra large intestines and that caused large bowel movements which would be sometimes painful. During the years he has always had large bowel movements to the point he would plug the toilet at least once a week. His daughter seems to have the same problem. She used to cry also as a baby while having a bowel movement and now her mom says she plugs the toilet when she goes. when she stays with us she tells me it hurts to go poopy and sometimes her bottom bleeds. I try to make sure she drinks plenty of juice and eats plenty of fruit usually oatmeal or raisen bran for breakfast. Has anyone ever heard of this before? Does it have a name? Does anyone have any advice to help. Sometimes she will hold it because she doesn't want it to hurt when she goes. Thank you

Extremely eHealthy
It is very possible that your son and his daughter have condition known as Hirschsprung's disease or megacolon.
It is a congenital disease (born with) that is usually passed from parents to the children.
Actually, a segment of baby's colon (large bowel) misses nerve cells in wall muscle, interrupting the signal from the brain and prevents peristalsis(muscle contractions that move the food) in that segment of the intestine.
This results in severe case of constipation, painful defecation with blood in stool due to anal tears when the hard, large stool is passed, or/and because of hemorrhoids.

This condition often needs to be treated because in more severe cases can lead to serious complications!

Consult gastroenterologist and pediatrician specialized in abdominal surgery!

Best wishes!
