I'm 20 years old, fairly active, although overweight (we'll get to that). I've been dealing with UC since I was 15 or so, and have been in and out of the hospital with it at times. I'm very common to get c. dif. as well, as I have poorly constructed sinus passages and the antibiotics coupled with preexisting intestinal issues are often a bad combination for me. I saw my specialist last week and after college exams are over he wants me to have another scope to check recent symptoms which to him, seem to lean towards Crohn's as opposed to UC.
Regardless -
I've tried to loose weight (coming from a family full of obese males on my fathers side) and with my UC, I notice that I lack bowel control during strenuous activity. This can be anything from weight lifting, walking a few miles, playing sports, etc. I'm a fairly active guy for my size, and tend to excel in what I do. Diet helps, but can only do so much on its own. I've got an active social life and this hinders me greatly. I can't go the the gym with the guys, for example. Typically I will just notice that I have soiled my pants, typically blood is present as well (but not always). These occurrences do not discriminate between "recessions" or "flare ups" with my UC. I do not notice when the soiling occurs, I just notice that it has happened. This tends to get progressively worse throughout the day.
My MD seems stumped on the subject. No hemorrhoids, polyps, etc. and it is not a side effect he commonly associates with UC. Anybody else have this, or a similar problem?
