Thirteen days ago I was diagnosed with Labyrinthitis. Sudden onset, severe vertigo, nausea, vomiting, no pain, no numbness or tingling in any extremities, no head trauma or any trauma for that matter. Vertigo went away, as did the nausea and vomiting within 24 hours. The vertigo took maybe 12 hours past that even to dissipate. The ER doc said labyrinthitis, a virus affecting the inner ear and you just get it. No antibiotics, nothing but time will mend this. Since the vertigo and nausea went I now have this weird head feeling, like I'm drunk physically. Not dizzy, just real hard to focus, and things move slower. Driving is a challenge, lots a activity makes me fuzzy. I can't really describe it, just not sharp and crisp like I was. I than went to a second Dr., family doc...said same thing, time, labyrinthitis and virus. He said you just get it. I am not buying this, no antibiotic, how do they know the difference, they can't see past my eardrum. The crappy part is that I am a full-time fireman and I need my mind and my focus and my agility. It isn't there, I am concerned about the longevity of this. I was told 98% of these cases go away in 3-4 weeks. Great so I am off of work for that long. Is there no testing for this, to confirm or is it something else. I am going to see a ENT next week but I am concerned now. No one understands, or even comprehends this diagnosis, they say "what!". I am tired and I want my head back to normal. Please help.
