Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum.
During early pregnancy it is difficult to say if baby is live or not. If there is fetal death, usually it is followed by miscarriage as the uterus tried to expel the dead fetus out which results in painful cramps and bleeding. Others include disappearance of the pregnancy symptoms.
In late pregnancy, the will be absence of fetal movements that will suggest fetal demise. If you suspect that baby is not well, then go ahead with an examination done by your obstetrician along with fetal Doppler or ultrasound scan to look for fetal well being.
Take care.
