Have you asked about physical therapy? It's not just about getting back to walking and teaching you how to stretch. They can sometimes help you work out the muscles and ligaments to where you have less pain. After so many years of being in pain, your body has compensated to minimize pain by carrying your weight differently, moving a certain way when you get up, etc. You may be doing things that are hurting you and not even know it.

It might be something to look into.
