does anyone know what causes severe knee pain after hip surgery. My father had hip replacement surgery two months ago, he's off the pain medication, and now his right knee hurts him so severely that he cant go to sleep at night, and it's a continous pain during the day

Sometimes if a surgery is difficult, there can be some nerve damage in the knee which can cause tingling and some pain... If this does not get any better in a certain amount of time after the surgery, it possibly will always give him problems....Another factor might be that he is still not walking correctly and due to the fact that he is, the knee could still hurt....

I would have him check with his doctor about the leg length.... If there is a large discrepancy between the leg lengths (over 1/2 inch), he may need to put a lift in his shoe to even out the lengths of the legs....He also may want to see his Therapist to see if he is walking correctly....

Good luck and hope this helps...Take care...
