Ok, around 3 years ago i had a BMX accident and impacted my knee on a small box just under the handlebars. I didn't register this injury until about 20 seconds later when I felt to see if my knee was ok and stuck my finger inside unwittingly; the cut being under my trousers and large enough for the fat of my knee to hang out.
I was taken to the A&E where the fat was placed back in and sealed up with plaster stitches and a bandage, was this the right way to fix my knee?
After resting it up and playing no sports or strenuous activity I made a return to sports with gentle kick arounds and light walking/jogging. It ached constantly but I assumed it was normal as it re-adjusted with my sporting lifestyle. About a year later it got so bad that I couldn't keep it bent for anything than short periods of time and if it took a knock then it prevented me from walking properly.
The doctors weren't really sure what was wrong and each one came up with a new theory and eventually, a year later, i had exploratory key-hole surgery with the head of the department who wanted to perform on what he described as a unique case and a first for him. It's just over a year from my surgery and the pain is getting to the point again where I cant keep it bent or play sports.

On my knee I have: the scar from the original accident and a large lump which seems to be bone (the doctors were adamant this wasn't a problem)

I realise this is long winded but I felt like I needed to mention it all

Hi Jake: Years ago they wanted to experiment with me on my knees too...I passed....

I wish I could tell you what to do, but my best advice would be to go to one of the best Orthopedist's around...One that has references coming out his ears...One they say is just plain great...Then tell him your problem and go from there....

I sure wish you well...And, no, you are not long winded...Just messed up with the pain you are in and confused with what has happened...

I wish you all the luck in the world...

Sincerely,
Caroline
