My boyfriend recently has gotten off klonopin for panic disorder after being on it for 3 years. He had a debilitating panic attack the second day off of klonopin (he took a month to wean off of it). His whole body tensed up and his hands cramped into lobster claws and he couldn't move them at all. It was the first time I witnessed a severe panic attack from him, and scared the crap out of me. The doctor said it was probably just withdrawal symptoms from the klonopin and gave him xanax to take if the anxiety rises again. However, he has been ridiculously moody and has no motivation to do anything since stopping the klonopin. He knows that klonopin is an addictive drug, and that he shouldn't be on it forever, but is considering getting back on it because he feels so horrible. I was wondering if anyone had a similar story, and how you've dealt with it.
I try to do what I can, but I just recently got off of lithium for bipolar (i believe i was misdiagnosed) and have a hard time with my own anxiety, let alone another person's. I love him to death, but sometimes it's hard to put up with when he's so moody and irritable.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Lynn
