Don't panic yet. I'm not the best person to give advice on the subject, but I'm in the process of learning about my kidney problems also(caused by kidney stones that I didn't know I had until a couple of months ago.) I know how scared you must be from hearing the lab results and having to wait for more tests. I'm still waiting for more tests and procedures to determine what type of stones I have and what can be done to treat them. You didn't say exactly which tests were done but I hope your doctor said more than just that your "kidneys were really bad". You may need to be referred to a specialist to get a true diagnosis. Most primary care doctors are trained to recognize the warning signs but nephrologists and urologists specialize in treating kidney and urinary tract problems. Since you are scheduled for ultrasound, you may have kidney or bladder stones and most of those can be treated without surgery. I wish I could be more helpful but I'm still learning also. Since the ultrasound is scheduled for next week, you're probably not in any immediate danger. I had to be admitted to the hospital immediately and I'm doing fine now and don't expect any serious problems. But it is scary & frustrating to have to wait so long to find out what is going to happen. All I can say is you are not alone, so hang in there and don't let your fear control how you feel.
