my friend just recently got a kidney transplant from her twin. not an identical twin, but a twin. doctors said this was a really good match, and it wasn't something they've seen before. she got it at 19 years old after having a transplant from a cadaver at birth. does this new kidney have a really good chance of doing well? how long could it last without problems?

Here are statistics from the United Network for Organ Sharing.

1-year survival rate for Kidney transplant: 93.7% probability survive 1 year after transplant from cadaver in the USA 2000-2001; from living donor is 97.6% (United Network for Organ Sharing, 2003)

2-year survival rate for Kidney transplant: 91.6% probability survive 2 years after transplant from cadaver and from living donor 96.4% in the USA 1999-2001(United Network for Organ Sharing, 2003)

5-year survival rate for Kidney transplant: 80.6% probability survive 5 years after transplant from cadaver and from living donor 90.4% in the USA 1996-2001(United Network for Organ Sharing, 2003)

10-year survival rate for Kidney transplant: 58.9% probability survive 10 years after transplant from cadaver and from living donor 77.8% in the USA 1991-2001(United Network for Organ Sharing, 2003)

I recieved a kidney transplant from my identical twin sister 14 years ago and still thriving. I am curious if there has been any research on identical twins and transplants. I am having a hard time rearching this one. thanks. Ms.Manley
