Welcome to the site.

I feel your pain, as I get many stones myself. I'll try to answer the best I can.
It sounds like the stone might be bouncing around in the kidney (kind of like it's on little game of ping pong) then lodging for a little bit and then floating again. I don't think you should drink beer when taking Vicodin.
Some people recommend lemonade for kidney stones others say drinking a lot of water.
You need to be careful the stone doesn't get lodged in the ureter and block your kidney. If the pain continues you should get to the ER, as you are well aware from your past stones.
Please keep us posted and good luck on Monday with your scan.

It sounds like the stone is still your kidney, if it's not then it's possible it's in the ureter which could be why your getting cramps in your stomach and the pain seems higher up in the back. If it gets worse you should get to the ER. I am concerned the stone might be blocking your kidney causing hydronephrosis.
I wish I could give you a better answer.
Keep posting.

mippys mom,

I've also had a bunch of stones and twice had to stay in the hospital until I passed them. They put me on a combo of lemonade and water, sort of alternating them, with pain meds and it took about 12 hours both times.

I passed a small stone at home about a month ago with little pain and I drank lots of water, not beer. I wasn't taking pain meds, so I guess I could've had beer, except I don't really like the taste. It does make you pee though.

It does sound like yours might still be high up, either in your kidney or your ureter. If it's a big stone, you may have to have a sound-wave procedure to break it up. It's very dangerous for a stone to get hung up in your ureter prior to entering the bladder.

I've never had stomach cramps and no hot flashes either. Are you old enough to be going through menopause? Your hormones could be going nuts and causing problems in reaction to your pain.

menopause
I had to have a hysterectomy about a year ago that put me straight into menopause...i am 37,,the hot flashes might be coming from the possible tumor on my parathyroid...Anyway for the past 30 min i have been having some problems peeing...i know i have to go but it wont come out and when it does it is only a little bit...it hurts a different kind of hurt, kinda like pressure...oh and it is like i have to push the pee out??does this sound normal??

First of all, here is what the Wikipedia definition is:

"Hydronephrosis is distention and dilation of the renal pelvis, usually caused by obstruction of the free flow of urine from the kidney."

That is not good and what usually happens when you cannot pass urine freely.

My wife also had your surgery and went through menopause at 32 and she also had hot flashes. Of course, you could be right about the tumor causing it in your case. I do know every time I had a stone, I felt like I had to pee all the time and still had trouble doing it. For you, it does sound as if you are blocked in some fashion, whether it is in the kidney and the stone keeps blocking the exit or blocking your ureter further down.

The pressure is probably caused by the buildup of pee with no way to eliminate it into the bladder if being blocked. My pee also trickled out slowly in small increments many times. I don't know what it's like for a woman, but my penis could feel the stone coming down the urethra from the bladder and it was also a tickling pressure feeling until it shot out.

If you are drinking your water, then I would say keep trying until the pain or pressure is such that you need to go to the emergency room. Oh, forgot to ask you if you were having any blood in your pee? If not, that means the stone might indeed be stuck, because usually when it is moving it scrapes the walls of the ureter or urethra on the way down. Also, if you find that you can't pee at all, then head to the ER immediately or you might be dealing with the Hydronephrosis.

Good luck and let me know what happend. You can send me a private message if you like and we can it further. Unfortunately, I'm old and need my beauty sleep, so I'm headed for the sack now. Talk to you later.

How are you today?
Hi there mippys mom

Just checking in on you. Has the stone passed? Are you anymore comfortable.
Are you on a hormone replacement therapy?
I know when I am in excruciating pain I get a hot flash feeling also.
Kidney stones are so much worse than giving birth, no one ever believed me when I said, until you go through it man it sucks.

Lonestarguy thanks for explaining the hydronephrosis, both my kidneys are affected with hydro due to other problems with my kidneys, but when stones form and get stuck it gets worse. How long have you been suffering with stones?
I feel sorry for you guys who get them. My husband and son both get them also.

You can both pm me anytime.

Take Care

My husband went to the store and bought some lemonaid ....heard that might move the little thing right along..who knows???I am not on any hormones..because i went through menopause pretty good i think...except for now.I dont know if i said this or not but it seems to me that since my hysterectomy every urinalysis has shown up with blood or/and protien in it...do you think this could mean anything???I am sorry to hear about your hydronephrosis problem...The last stone i had was lodged into my kidney inside of a blood clot...is this what you are talking about or is it when it gets stuck in the tube that goes from your kidney to your bladder????you can tell this is all pretty new to me and i have just now started learning about it,,,thanks..Lori

Hi
Everybody is giving such great advice so I will add my two cents. I hope you are feeling better. It is no fun being sick. I have kidney obstruction so I can empathize, I also had a hysterectomy 3 months ago. Have you tried anything for the nausea? Are you seeing a urologist? I have no experience with kidney stones but I do have hydronephrosis from the obstruction. I think kidney stones can be anywhere along the ureter or bladder. When is your next test? pm me if you have any concerns or questions. I will try and answer them if I can. Smile

Hi Lori

I had a hysterectomy also many years ago but I've kidney stones way before the hysterectomy. We are referring to the ureter tube which is between your kidney and bladder. blood clots are also painful to pass same as renal cysts when they pop the pain is brutal.

Feel free to ask anything, someone will be able answer it for you, if not we will dig deep until we get the answer.

How are you feeling?

stones
thank you everyone soooo much for all of the help..I did finally pass that stupid thing..it was not as big as i thought it would be..shewwww weee!!!! I did have a parathyroid scan and a ultrasound done of my neck yesterday...the radiologist came in the room which i figured could not be good.... they found the tumor on one of my left parathyroid glands...now they are awaiting the other scan results..if they show "activity" on the same side then no more tests will be ordered, but if it does not show
"activity" then I have to go out of town to get other tests done...not really happy right now..i will be when they finally do surgery. All of this tumor talk makes me sick. thank you all for listening and all of your helpful advice...it is a comfort to talk with people who have experienced some of the same things...Lori

Lori,

It was good news that you finally passed the stone. Now, we all wish you well with the tumor and surgery. Keep us informed what happens. Butterfly is correct, there is a thyroid forum to peruse.
