Greetings,

Five years ago I experienced an incident of sharp absominal pain that came on suddenly on the left side accompanied by nausea. I went to the ER, they took a CT scan and diagnosed the problem as a kidney stone. In a subsequent review of the CT scan, a urologist said that this was not a kidney stone, but a skin polyp and what the ER had called a kidney stone could not have accounted for the pain I experienced. There was no indication of why I had experienced such severe abdominal pain.

A month ago I experienced very similar symptoms, again on the left side, accompanied by violent vomiting. I went to the ER and they diagnosed the problem as a kidney stone after taking a CT scan. A urologist indicated this was a 6mm kidney stone located in the last inch of the ureter above the bladder.

A later X-Ray showed nothing in the ureter. A subsequent second CT scan showed that the stone had moved into the bladder (after two days of again feeling very ill) although I'm not convinced the urologist saw the stone in the bladder. He may simply have not found it in the ureter. The urologizt indicated that the stone should pass on its own at this point.

I have not had a whisper of a hint to suggest that I have passed anything, but a later urinalysis shows no taint of blood and the urologist says the stone must have passed.

Given my previous experience 5 years ago, and the lack of any symptoms for passing a (6mm) stone, I am finding it difficult to trust my urologist. I also note that I continue to have slight feelings of nausea, though certainly nothing like I experienced a month ago.

Is there any possibility that I have something else happening internally that could be confused with a kidney stone? Are there any conditions that might look like a kidney stone that are really something else?

Thanks very much for your time.
