Hi and Welcome to the site.

I'm sorry you have to go through this. As for the stent pain I am not going to lie they are uncomfortable but bearable for a short time..some people have stents in for a long period of time..YUK!!! I've had them in for 3 months at a time.
The laser is not to bad, any type of procedure will be painful. It's hard to give a number as everyone's pain level is different.
Make sure the doctor gives you pain medication and you can ask for medication like Ditropan for bladder spasms, which can be brought on by the stents.
The other thing is to ask your doctor to use a stent that is not to big for you.
Drink plenty of fluids to help pass the pieces of stones out quicker.

Best of Luck and hang in there..Smile

My experience with stents is they are uncomfortable, but not extremely painful. You can function. Mine made me go to the bathroom a lot more.
Good Luck.

With a stent you always feel like something is there. If it moves in a position such as rubbing against the kidney or bladder wall you will feel it more. Some doctors will say you can about your normal routine but I noticed I couldn't do that because, if I over did it the pain increased.
The best advice is to take it easy while it is.

You always know it's there. This is just our opinions though. Don't let us worry you. You will get through fine. When do you go for the procedure? Please let us know how you are doing. Good luck.

Post Stent and Laser symptoms
I realize this thread is almost a year old but I just had a stint for 2 weeks after I had a laser op to remove a acid stone - the op went bad in the sense that the fragments caused blockage and all in all I picked up some sort of virus (my hospital tag called it pyelonephritis) which took me down for 2 weeks so they re-inserted a stint and removed t passed monday (week ago). Now my question is this - can someone give me some sort of indication of the POST operation/stint symptoms as I have regular spasms on both kidneys (only the right one had stone) and irregular on the urinal tract.

Hi

It sounds like you developed a kidney infection. As for the stent it can cause spasms, there is medication the doctor order to help with those spasms such as ditropan (yes it is used for over active bladder but it helps with the urgency to urinate and spasms)...I've been through this more times than I care to remember.. covereyes

It's possible they looked into the other kidney that can be spasming as well or the infection ended up in both kidneys.

Keep us posted.

I had a kidney stone that was 8mm long and 4mm wide trying to come out of my pee pee. it has been stuck in me for 3 months now. The doctor tried to do surgery and the scope got stuck in my uterthia? he stuck a stent in me and for the last 5 days after this mishap everytime i go to the bathroom to pee it feels like someone slapped me in the balls for about 8 seconds. I'm scared to pee everytime :-} so I just keep popping the meds

Kidney-Bladder Stint
I recently had a stone removed that had been stuck in the tube, just below the kidney for over 3 months. My Doctors tried everything to get it to move, but it was so stuck that the utera was beginning to grow around the stone and was inflamed. My urologist put a stint in for three weeks (to let the area rest a bit) then went in and lasered the stone. After that another stint was put in. Three days later I was required to remove it myself. This worried me a bit and I did some research on the net but really couldn't find much information or photos.
When it came time to remove it, I prepared myself with two Doctor prescribed percocet pain pills, then waited an hour for them to take effect. Meanwhile I drank four very large glasses of cranberry juice. The plan was to get in the shower, then as I began to pull on the external surgical thread slowly try and urinate. With a slow steady pull it began to come out and I continued to pull it out until it was completely removed. There was very little pain, due in part to the two medications taken earlier. There was some blood and a several flakes of clotted blood but all went well.
I am not a Doctor but I am a researcher in another field and decided to include a photograph of what a stint looks like and how long mine was, which went from kidney to bladder. The "pigtails" on the ends keep the stint in place with one end in the kidney and the other in the bladder. The surgical thread which is black is connected to one end of the stint (the end in the bladder). The thread was 15 inches long (about 7 inches of that was outside the penis). The stint itself, uncoiled was also 15 inches long. It is soft and flexible. The image should give you a better idea of what a stint is and what it does. I also placed a one cent piece in the image so you can better judge the size. I hope this helps anyone reading this with an interest - as well as calming you down a bit if you are required to remove it yourself. Again, medicate yourself with your doctor prescribed drug an hour before removal and you should have no problems and little pain. Also, keep in mind that this entire removal procedure only took about 45 seconds. That's it. So quit worrying about it and relax.

Stent
I had mild to serve pain in my right kidney for the past three months. I knew what was happening as I have had 104 kidney stones in the past fifteen years. I was hoping that I could pass this one. No luck! I ended up going to the emergency room explaining my condition. They were able to give me the appropriate pain medications that only help but do not eliminate the pain. A CT scan was ordered; the results were what we suspected a 3 mm stone in the ureter just below the pelvis of the kidney blocking the flow and two 3 mm stones in the lower pole of the kidney. Due to my history the doctors were not convinced I could pass the stones and suggested a surgical procedure to remove the stones. I have only been able to pass six of the 104 stones in the pass. I was scheduled the procedure that afternoon.
The surgeon passed a small fiber-optic instrument called an ureteroscope through the urethra and bladder and then into the ureter. The stone was located in the upper end of the ureter and removed with the use of a special cage-like tool. The surgeon then went back into the ureter to the kidney where he located the two additional stones and he shattered them with an instrument that produces a shock wave. After the procedures he placed a small tube called a stent in the right ureter for several days. The Doctor told me this would promote healing of this portion of the urinary tract and allow for any stone fragments to pass freely to the bladder. After four painful days the stent was removed. I got immediate relief but before I got home the pain began was as intense as if I was again passing the stone. What occurred was the ureter was inflamed and when the stent was removed it collapsed. I was immediately returned to the hospital and then injected Toridol an anti inflammatory and mussel relaxant. Within one hour I had mild discomfort and I am on the way to full recovery. With no Stones!

Sorry for the length of the my story, but an answer to your question "what kinda pain im looking at haveing this stint done they said itll be in for 3 weeks scale me 1 to 10"

My answer is I had pain that varied between a 4 on the scale to a 10. Be prepared for the post stent pain. I was told by the doctors “do not get behind in taking the pain medicine” as it will be difficult to rebound. I do not like the pain medicine but have learned from past experience that you must take all that they tell you to take and do not consider any level of pain acceptable.

I have had kidney stones 4 times. The third time I was out for over a week and remember nothing about it. In April 2009 I had stones again. To make very long story short, I went 10 days ago, the doctor tried to remove the stint but it was stuck. Now I have to go to the hospital to remove the stint surgically but and awaiting approval from medical. Anyone know what happens when the stint is stuck. Thanks
