The drug of choice for this is one with Sulfa in it. This can only be treated by a doctor an not over the counter. There is no over the counter treatment. Kidney infections if not treated in time can lead to more damaging issue. Kidney shut down is one of the most severe if it goes unteated. Remember, you only have two of them and I think you would want to keep them healthy as long as possible. I highly suggest you go get this properly diagnosed and treated.

I agree with CarolDiane if you do not treat a kidney infection you increase your chances for major problems down the road.
Some other antibiotics used are Levaquin, Cipro, just name a couple more.
Drink plenty of fluids also when you have a kidney infection or UTI.
