hi everyone. i was just diagnosed with a severe kidney infection. i was perscribed Nitrofurantoin ( an antibiotic ) to treat this but, EVERYTHING that i'm reading online says that this particular antibiotic should not be used to treat kidney infections. does anyone have any advice? i've tried calling the nurse but, they keep telling me to just take the medication. i have no particular doc, i was taken to the E.R. thank you.

Hi and Welcome to ehealth This drug is used to treat UTI's The other name for it is Macrobid. I would call your pharmacist, ask them about this medication and kidney infections. Did they scan your kidneys at all?
