I am a 39 yr. old female who started having "kidney pain" in May of 2009. I thought I was having sympathy pains for a close relative that was dying from kidney cancer. The pain became debilitating, moved down my leg in to the groin area. Eventually went to Dr. was found to have a kidney infection. Was allergic to EVERY antibiotic. I tried to handle it on my own and with 'natural cures'. Did not work. Ended up in hospital, found kidney stones. Have been passing kidney stones since July 2009. But, my urine is the color of tea, it is foamy, blood in urine, and the pain is worse. I have unintentionally lost 20 lbs., and feel constantly tired and nauseated. Also have strong metal taste in my mouth. I liken the pain/contractions to child birth. I literally feel like I'm 'shutting down'. Both Dr.s recognize and see protein in my urine and blood. One says this is just how it is when you have had stones (which I didn't have a lot of according to mri's in July) and the other says there is nothing I can do because I'm allergic to antibiotics. I am so confused. First, I would think that having an infection in your body for almost 6 months is not good, and with symptoms progressing and adding on almost daily, I am afraid I may have or will get kidney disease. I am not obese, I do have high blood pressure for me which is giving me terrible headaches, but it didn't start until about 2 months ago. Any help or direction is appreciated. I am attached to the couch and a heating pad and deep down I feel like I'm shutting down. On a side note, I have been taking about 6-8 acetaminophen daily as prescribed by my Dr. for the past two years for Fibromyalgia. I have stopped taking them after I recently read the link to kidney disease. Thank you.

I never had pain with my kidney failure, and disease but many people have. My huband had kidney stones, but they weren't accompanied by enough protein or blood to be concerned with and he had no symptoms after they had passed.

As someone who has had two kidney transplants, especially with high blood pressure (which can precede or follow kidney failure-my kidney failure came first)
I would seek a second opinion. My doctors link NSAIDS to kidney disease but I haven't heard Acetaminophen being linked, as that is the only pain relief I have for my migains and Fibromyalgia currently.

The sooner you get seen, if your kidneys are shutting down, the longer it can be prolonged and perhaps even haulted.
