Q: Keeping LDL down

I am 68 yrs. old and have high LDL (178) and my HDl is 50.
I was on Lipitor for awhile but developed muscle spams and
weakness. I am on Simvastin now, but it is not keeping my
LDL down. What is the recommendation for keeping the Bad
Cholestrol lower? Does Niacin work? I am sure it is a
genetic problem. Is their anything that I can do. I can
not seem to lose weight.....Yes, I am also overweight at
least 50 LBS.

Are you sure that you are not fighting your medication with your eating?...I am on Simvastin and not had a problem..However, I watch my carbs...Carbs and calories is the answer to losing weight...At least in my opinion...I am also older.,..Actually older than you...Good luck...
