Just had my fusion using the Aspen Fusion Device

Had my fusion of L-4 and L-5 on Thursday. They cleaned out the disk between L-5 and S-1. Using the Aspen Device they fused L-5 to the S-1 Spinous and the L-4 to the L-5 Spinous. Pain was very bad on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Was released on Saturday afternoon with Percocet and Oxycontin prescriptions. Pain has moderated but walking and elevating is very difficult. Sleep is also a problem.

They had to do a extensive lamenectomy on the L-5 and my numbness and loss of feeling in my left foot has significantly improved. Procedure was performed at Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City and the staff, especially the nurses, were extremely professional and CARING. I have to take off the next three weeks to allow the fusion to continue. Without the support of my wife this would have been very difficult....moral and emotional support is the centerpiece of surviving this my.
