Q: Joint Swelling in fingers

Hey all,

I have recently developed some swelling the joints of my right hand. I have had this before and always thought it was nothing more than heat rash or something similar.

I will explain as best I can what they are like and see if anybody has any ideas what it may be.

Generally when I get this the swellings are very soft and not very large and include a redness of the skin. They are not painful but more itchy than painful and when feeling them as I already said they are soft but obscure the feeling of the bone, if that makes any sense. They usually occur in the first joint of the finger (not the knuckle)and generally only happen in two or three fingers.

I have just noticed a new swelling of the knuckle my small finger and on the next finger to it I have developed a large hard swelling of the first joint. As usual they are a bit itchy but the harder one is mildly painful if pressed or prodded!

Can anybody recommend a possible cause? As far as I am aware i have no major allergies, though I do have a small allergy to house dust.

Thanks a million in advance!
