Q: jaw pain - dislocated ?

tuesday morning i woke up perfectly fine, but around mid-morning, i started to feel an odd pain in my left jaw joint - no blows to the face, odd yawns, nothing. it got worse throughout the day until it was painful to chew, yawn, and sometimes talk. if i bite down, the left side of my teeth don't touch, but i can force them to do so by smiling and enduring some good pain. opening my mouth widely hurts as well. when i sleep on my right side i feel like my jaw is falling. it's thursday night and nothing has changed. i suspect it could be dislocated, but i would expect more sever pain than this. has this happened to anyone before? does it go away with time, or do i need to see a doctor? i used to grind my teeth as a child, so i wouldn't be surprised if that's the cause, but first i want to fix the problem. thanks.

you should go in to see a doctor. i doubt that it is dislocated---no blows to the face etc. Id get into a chiropractor, could be someting other than tmd---i have a friend that is going through this now. also get into a good tmd specialist to see if it is tmd.

treat your jaw as if its been sprained for a few days. take some ibuprophen and put some ice on it. eat soft foods --let me know if there is more i can do for you---i can help you find a doctor too if you need me to

side effect of root canal
I have the same thing. jaw, ear, and facial pain. it started a couple days after a root canal and has been very painful for 2 weeks now. I can barely open my mouth and the oral surgeon put me on a liquid only diet until further notice. I had no idea a basic root canal could do this. The doctor also prescribed steroids, pain med., and muscle relaxants, on top of ibup. 3x a day. The medicine only makes me not care about the pain as much but it is still there and getting worse. You should maybe go see the dentist and they would refer you to an oral surgeon for a diagnosis. If you hear of any treatments please let me know and I will do the same. So sorry you are in pain.

I have jaw pains in the left of my jaw. I have no idea what caused it. Its like I am tempted to keep clicking my jaw but that is just making it worse; its like a bad habit.

I also grinded my teeth when I as younger.
