Hello,
I have had this habit of getting my teeth aligned opposite each other, sometimes sub-consciously so over the past few years. I know it sounds stupid but people are stupid sometimes.
Anyways, I have had no jaw problems in the past and have perfect teeth (never needed braces, etc).
About two weeks ago my jaw, or rather my gums were hurting. I can't really locate where the pain was but there was very minor pain somewhere on my face in the gum area at night when I was sleeping. Then, about a week later, before going to bed at night, while I was brushing my teeth I opened my mouth and suddenly there was this very harsh jolt of pain that I experienced on the left side of my jaw ahead of the ear. The pain, though, subsided eventually and just seemed like a bad overworked jaw acting out. However, two days later at night I had this really weird (is what I would call it) pain in my gums again, like someone was pulling them away. I didn't think much of it that night but the next morning I felt this weird difference in the way my gums were positioned the next morning. The position just doesn't seem right and I can't explain it either. It's like my lower gum grind on my upper gum but my bite seems normal.
The pain was at it's most that initial day and my jaw clicked a few times. The next day, my chin has started to act weird in the sense that it seems to stretch out ahead on it's own, and my muscles beneath the chin feel like they're being pulled when this happens. Also, when I smile, my cheeks feel heavy and shaky.
I went to a doctor and He said I have a wisdom tooth coming out and ignored everything else I had to say. I don't have any "pain" except that my face is starting to feel really full and I don't want to talk or smile because of the heaviness.
Does this at all seem like TMJ? If so, is there anything I can do at this point to correct it and stop it from developing? Should I see a dentist or a chiropractor?
Please anyone respond!
