I can't have children on my own so my fiancee and I are wanting to do the IVF treatment but not sure how the process goes.. well I know what they will do but I'm curious about the costs and what kind of tests they do and so on and so forth. If anyone could give me some insight that would be wonderful!! Thank you!!!

Preliminary testing for IVF includes:

* Semen analysis
* Blood hormone tests - baseline levels of FSH, LH, estradiol, inhibin B and anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH)
* Blood test to check for immunity to German measles
* Hysteroscopy or HSG for women
* Chlamydia screening
* HIV, hepatitis B and Hepatitis C screening
* Transvaginal ultrasound scan for antral follicle count (AFC) and ovarian volume

Have you visited a clinic yet?

The average cost is around $14,500. Do you know how you'll be financing the IVF treatment? What city do you live in? I can try to help you find some subsidized clinic or program if you like.

I live in British Columbia (vancouver Island) Canada. Wow that is a good lump of cash but it will definatly be worth it. I have to idea save up I guess I got 2 years so. If the first IVF doesn't work do I have to pay again for another or do they keep trying until you are pregnant?

I'd assume that the cost is an average for most couples. It seems that IVF clinic charge separate costs for certain treatments and services. Since every clinic will be different, I suggest that you find a clinic and then discuss their prices with them. Make an Initial Consultation (there is usually no charge for this consultation if you are a BC resident with a valid care card AND have a referral from a family physician) to get a better idea on the particulars.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!
