Hi there. I am starting my first cycle of ivf soon and im very nervous. Im 23 years old and have been trying for a baby for 3 years. I was told to be able to have ivf i had to quit smoking which i did although i found it very difficult. Ivf is due to begin in about 2 weeks or so and the other day i had a bit of bad news in the family and i had a cigarette. I feel so bad cause im so close to ivf and i was just wandering if this is going to affect my tratment. I did a smoking breathiliser test when i first went for consultation and it was fine but im worried they will do another one and it will pick up the one i had the other day. Do you think it would? I feel like an fool for letting myself down but i got some very bad news within the family and thats why i smoked. Any help or guidance on this would be much appreciated thank you

When did you stop smoking?

One cigarette may not do too much hram on the overall efficiency of the IVF treatment. In fact, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine states: "Active
smoking by either partner has adverse effects."...and it does not sound like you are an ACTIVE smoker.

To be sure, you can read the entire article called Smoking and Infertility.

My specialist said that I could have up to a few cigarettes a week and that some people sometimes create more anxiety for themselves if they are struggling to quit.
