Im 20, and not really sexually active (I had oral sex with a guy six months ago)...My vagina has been really itchy mostly in the morning and at night, and I have a slight discharge, kind of creamy white.... I can't really go to the doctors, and I have been using tea tree oil which helps the itching... I also noticed that my labia are kinda swollen? I don't really know what to do, and this has been going on for about three weeks... any suggestions? I thought that it might be thrush... how do i get rid of it!!!!!

It may be a yeast infection. Does it smell like beer or bread?

If it smells rotten or like fish, it is a bacterial infection.

It is important to treat any infection you may have. Your home remedy may just be making things worse.

It does sound a lot like thrush. Here in Australia you can buy over the counter remedies for this such as Canesten. If this does not fix the problem then you really need to see a doctor.

it's a possibility that it could be a yeast infection. but if you use the over the counter cream, and your symptoms comes back, then you have something else. have you ever heard of that over the counter pad, it determines what kind of infection you have by your discharge. you can try that.
but it's really hard for anyone to tell, even a doctor over the phone would want to see you.
another suggestion is to research herbal remedies for females infections.

Even if she uses thrush cream and it comes back, it can still be thrush. Unfortunately, some women get thrush every month for years. It can be very stubborn and then you need to look at the factors that are causing the person to get it repeatedly. I haven't heard of the pad thing. It sounds very interesting.

Does that have anything to do with hygiene?

Not at all. Some people are just less resistant to thrush (thrush is the same thing as a yeast infection)just as some people get colds more often than other people.

It can also be caused by diet, bathing in bubble bath/bath oils, underwear fabrics and so on. You can get a fact sheet at the chemist about it if you live in Australis.

Too much sugar, foods that contain sugar and foods that contain yeast all can contribute to thrush. Avoiding these foods is recommended when trying to clear it up. A good healthy diet is required to keep your immune system in good health. I should add in case you didn't know that your partner needs to be treated too as men can catch it from you and even when you get rid of it you could catch it back from them. Thrush can be a persistent thing and cause a vicious circle between you and your partner.
