I had my tummy tuck ten years ago and I still get that terrible internal itching! It drives me insane! I find it funny that the doctors on line have never heard of it before. I have seen many people complaining so it's real. I wish that they could give us proper answers. It's a problem. I wish they would look into it instead of just denying it as a problem. It's not in our heads! (It is 5 am and I am searching for an answer! I can't sleep because it is so uncomfortable!)
Omg ! I had a TT 5and a half years ago... I've been experiencing this horrible itching sensation inside my stomach. It is keeping me awake.. I don't know what to do? I called my dr. He said it could be a fungal infection. Honestly after reading these blogs I don't think so. I'm freaking out & feel horrible what can stop this? How long is it going to last?
deep internal itching after Lower Body Lift/Abdominoplasty
I had a lower body lift 6 years ago and am having the same deep internal itching. It does drive you insane! I am an RN and work for a plastic surgeon and havent heard anyone of our patients really complain about it. When I asked some other people I know that has had the surgery they tell me they experience the same kind of internal itching at times too. I asked the Dr. I work for what he thought he said it is highly likely related to the surgery. It has to be a nerve issue I think. Anyway, your not alone.
Here in Sydney, there is a accupunture Dr that specialises in nerve block using a scalpel, I know its successful as I have witnessed my husband have it done twice, once on his painful shoulder and on his back, he does it right there in the Dr surgery after a jab of Anaesthetic, and only cost $280.I wonder if you could have that done ?
It is 4 am and I am suffering from this as well, so am on the net lookingnswers. Had tt, them additional medical surgeries that flared io the itching. Last week, stripped vein an now here I am itching internally. Docs all never heard of such a thing. Going bizerk!
same here! i had my first one nearly three years ago, and the last one abou t a year ago, i want to itch where my belly button USED to be, its driving me insame, but painkillers and iboprufen seem to take the edge off - what a pain! who knew this would be a side affect, having my time over again... there is NO WAY i would do it again x Rant Over x
Hi, I've had 'internal' itching coming from my naval but it origionated from OCD. Everytime I think of the area, though, or all day practically from waking, I get a deep internal itch coing from that area. It really keeps me awake and I can't exercise and disrupts my life completely as it won't go away ever. It seems there is a bundle of nerves there that can become quite activated maybe without being able to switch off. I'm interested that there are other sufferers out there with a similar problem though linked to a different issue. Whether the cause is surgery or pshycological as in my case, I feel some surical intervention is necessary and desirable.
Am I correct that thinking about it triggers onset sometimes, though it is usually there all the time. We definately agree is causes serious sleep loss, I've had to survice on sleeping tablets, which affects my memory. I also find that being distracted at work makes the feeling go away but returns once again in one's own privacy and personal time.
I too have developed a deep internal itch 5 years post abdominoplasty. It has itched on and off over the years, but now it is a persistent deep, unscratchable itch! Does anyone know if it's possible that the nerves are regenerating this far out from the procedure?
I am almost 7 years out from my TT and I am having the same itching...it started about 4 years ago, went away for a few years and it's back today . Hope this time it goes away fast. Glad to know I am not crazy.
Hello Everyone! No, we are not going crazy. The abdominal itching we are experiencing is very, VERY REAL! My abdominoplasty was done nearly 2 1/2 years ago and I have run the gammut of emotions. I admit that I felt really frightened until I read your stories. My itching generates mostly around the naval area and spreads from there. I do wonder if it has to do with the nerve endings and is perhaps part of the healing process, however sometimes when I rub my abdomen I will feel strange sensations generating throughout my body or in other areas of my body. After reading your comments, I will share what I have learned with my physician and ask that she examine the possibility of my nerves being affected by the surgery. I wish you all the best and thank you for sharing. You have definitely helped me. Phoenix
I'm so glad to see I am not alone. I had skin removed from all the way around my abdomen and within a few months I started the deep itching. It's not on the surface so I can't really scratch it. It is under the skin and I have to pound my skin to get to it. I use lanacaine and dermoplast sprays and cortisone cream. They take the edge off but do not totally relieve it. Ibuprofen helps too. On top of the itching, it feels like a tight corset around my waist even when I have nothing on. It's very uncomfortable. I don't notice it so much when I have clothes on but as I'm getting undressed to take a shower it's very annoying. I massage the scar line with lotions and that only aggravates the itching. Part of the price we have to pay.
I had the same surgery almost 15 years ago. I have just recently had this horrible itching in the area of the belly button. I have found that EFT (emotional freedom technique) has helped some. I am going to ask my doctor about cutting the nerves to the area of the belly button.
I'm so glad I found this site!! I've been itching for 3 years!!! I had the surgery in 2006 and still to this day, it itches. In addition- my new "belly button" feels so WEIRD! I can't touch it- skeeves me out. Anyway, if anyone finds out what this itchy deal is, PLEASE post up. I didn't read anything about this in the entire year that I researched TTs online- how whack is that! Anyway, for now, we pound, take unneccesary pills and maul our skin away. My kingdom for answers!
I had a TT done just last year and this is already my second bout of internal itching around the belly area. One night it was so bad that I swear I almost pushed my finger right through my belly button trying to find the itch. I thought maybe I had a parasite as it felt as if something was chewing at me every 20 seconds and it went on for days. I really thought I was going to lose my mind .... now after a few months, it's back again. I'm going to my doctor next week to talk to her about this. She has to fix this!!!! It's driving me crazy!!!!!
I just had my tummy tuck and feathering liposuction in the flanks 2 weeks ago. For the longest past 5 days, I have extremely surface itchy. It's slightly different than most of your complaints, nonetheless itchy! I scratched so hard that now I've got rashes. It seems to be around the mid section front to back. Kind of where the binder touches. I'm thinking I have a reaction to the Binder or the detergent we used to wash it. I hope I get overcome this and live itch free.
I had a TT about 2 1/2 years ago and I have been numb below the incision line since. BUT... over the last couple of days, I have been going crazy with this itching under my skin. I simply can NOT scratch it, and I think it feels that much worse because the skin on top has no feeling. On one hand, I was relieved to find that I am not alone. On the other hand, I'm not happy to know that there doesn't seem to be a good reason for it other than "nerve issues." I had learned long ago that itching (other than the standard occasional skin itch) usually indicates a healing process. But could it possibly be so after so long? Should I hold out hope that my lower tummy won't be numb in the future? Based on what you all have said, I don't think this is the case. But is it possible that it IS?
Hi, I just stumbled upon this site as my stomach is itching like crazy tonight. I have not had a tummy tuck but my gallbladder was removed two years ago wit laproscopy. My itch is on the right side just inside my tummy where the surgery incisions were made. Has anyone found a relief to this inside itching?
Wow, it is nice to know this is not in my head. I had a TT about 3 years ago. About the last year I have times when I have uncontrolable itching. I am VERY glad I had the TT without it I know that I would really be miserable. I wish the doctors would figure this out and let thier patience know what to expect. Everything else I was prepared for...this I was not. It is miserable!!! I have a doctor's appt coming up and I am going to ask. Let you know if I find out anything.
