Has anyone else experienced intense itching all over your body while on Tri Sprintec? This is my 3rd month and this is the first I am noticing horrible itching everywere. (not in genital area) I am also experiencing what feels like the start of horrible charlie horses in my calves, like if I point my toes or stretch my legs too much they feel like they are going to tense up and go into a cramp...this is driving me nuts.

I've been on Sprintec for about a year. Never once have I noticed that. Maybe your allergic to something or got into something that could cause this.

Tri-Sprintec
I was actually relieved to find your posting. I have been on birth control for 9 years & swithced to tri-sprintec last week. I have never had ANY problems with borth control, however after taking Tri-Sprintec for 4 days, I began having the itchiest & most irritated legs ever! Only today did I finally put it together that it's probably the switch in birth control that I'm having an allergic reaction to. I am going to stop taking the pills & see if the severe irritation goes away.

I'm curious to hear what you ended up doing or how you treated your irritation.

The estrogen in the birth control may be the cause of the itching. It has something to do with the liver not clearing the estrogen. You may want to have your doctor do blood work to see if your liver enzymes are within the normal range. My wife has the same problem (they think it is genetic) and she has to take a progestin only birth control pill. The itching also became intolerable during pregnancy because the estrogen levels raise. This form is called cholestasis of pregnancy. I am not sure if this is what is causing your itching but it may help you.

Thank you for posting this. I just started itching like crazy tonight... started taking the tri-sprintec a week ago (today). I did a quick google search - although I am aware this is not the right way for a diagnosis. Wink ANyways... I was also VERY itchy in my legs during my pregnancy- nearly 4 years ago.... makes a lot of sense. Smile

Sprintec-itchy hands and feet!
My feet and hands have been itching like CRaZY since switching to Sprintec! I had to pull over on the side of the road in my car just to rip my shoes off and scratch my feet-it's that bad! So dissapointing because it's $4 with my insurance because it's generic. I was paying $38 for the ortho try cylene lo. I just can't handle the itching after 2 weeks. I'd rather be poor than going nuts scratching my feet and hands Sad anyone else have this?

I've had an intense, overwhelming, wake you up in the middle of the night, crying, itch all over my body. And it stopped when I forgot to take my ortho tri lo. Odd and very annoying. Really worried that all bc will be that way for me):

I have recently experienced intense itching due to this generic birth control. Mostly my scalp and around my chin. I stopped taking it and actually, the manufacturers have stopped making it all together due to patent infringements.

Holy Moly! So I am not going crazy! I have been on Sprintec for over 4 months now and for the longest time I could not explain why I had been itching so much. It was mostly concentrated around my inner/outer thighs, buttocks and under both arms. It had gotten to the point where I scratched myself so much it turned into a HUGE bruise. I even sought after medical help from an allergy specialist and spent hundreds of dollars on prescription allergy meds to no avail! I would rather cough up the $65 and pay for the brand name than $10 for the generic and want to pull my hair out.

Allergic Reaction to Tri Sprintec?
After taking Tri Sprintec for almost a month I noticed a rash on my chest. Then I had what seemed like a rash on my vulva area. I was experiencing so much pain after urine was expelled, touching my labia. My vaginal area is extrememly red & itchy, and painful to sit down & even walk.I went to the Dr. figuring I had a yeast infection, so she tested me for that along with every STD imaginable. The result came back negative for everything, so I really think its due to this Tri Sprintec. I''m going to go back to the Dr.''s tomorow. I always have safe sex, and I have now produced these little lumps all over my labia and vulva area. Extremely painful. I have a feeling its an allergic reaction to the bc. I''ll find out tomorow, & reply once i know whats going on.

Ive been using tri sprintec for several years but all of a freaking sudden i am experiencing this insane itch..it starts only on the 2nd week of pills and lasts until the 3rd week. I am guessing the levels of estrogen are higher in those pills..I changed my laundry detergent, body wash but it wasn''t environmental. It has to be these pills..I am itchy on my hips and legs...no red marks..well now there are due to the severity of the itching...what gives? why all of a sudden?

I have spots on my hand, arm & one particularly itchy spot on my lower leg. I woke up & this had happened. The doctors office told me that a reaction to Tri Sprintec usually happens within the 1st 48 hours of taking the pill. and it shouldn't be caused by the pill. This happened on about my 5th day of taking it. Did anyone else have this "delayed reaction"? Thanks!

Allergy to Tri Sprintec
I have been on Tri Sprintec for a year and have had the craziest side effects!! I itch so bad on my calves and thighs I end up with huge hematomas from my intense scratching. I have a rash on my chest and when I called the dr to talk about a possible yeast infection, the nurse said we need to draw a LFT to check my liver function. I swear I am allergic! I never had this problem on Yaz.

Tri-Sprinec
I have been using Tri-spintec since July 2009. Ever since I started using it I have had a few leg cramps and insane itching all over my whole body but mostly my legs. I have scratched so bad that there are scars. I have been to Dermatologist after Dermatologist as well as an Allergist. My Dermatologist has been treaing my intense itching with light treatments and steroid ointments. It seems to help some but not completely. It was only 2 weeks ago that I realized this all started when my pharmacy switched me from Tri-Nessa to Tri-Sprintec. When I told my Dermatologist what I had discovered he recommended I stop the Birth-Control for a month and see if the itching stops. I also changed laundry soap, bath soap, shampoo, and anything else I could think of. I am very convinved that it is the Tri-Spintec.

possible allergic reaction to Tri Sprintec
I have used Ortho Tri Cyclen for about 8 years now. I just filled my prescription at a new pharmacy and didn't realize they gave me the generic Tri Sprintec until I walked out and it was too late to return. I've only been taking it for a little over a week, and I've experienced itching on my arms, legs, and face, chest pains, blurry vision. Also, as I type this, my tongue is swollen! I did go to an urgent care doctor today who gave me a steroid shot, Prednisone, and etc who assures me I should be fine in 4-5 days (seems like forever), if not, to return. I'm convinced my allergic reaction is to Tri Sprintec, because I haven't changed anything else. It is quite frightening to have this happen. I called my old pharmacist, and he said that he hasn't received any negative reports about Tri-Sprintec from his customers - probably because the ones with issues don't even consider that their birth control could be the root of their problems! I thank you for these posts. It lets me know that I am not crazy! I am going to discontinue this generic completely, and I hope these problems will subside as a result!

Allergic to Different Generic Brands of Same Drug...
I was on TriNessa and TriSprintec for a long time with no noticable issues... my pharmacy switched to TriPrevifem in July and for the past two + months I have had a super itchy rash all over my arms, back, legs, torso... been to dermatologist, could not figure out what was causing this! I just put two and two together and found this post last week. I stopped taking the TriPrevifem on Friday and the rash is already getting better, so I think that's what it is. My doctor and pharmacist said while these are all chemically the same, I could be allergic to the fillers / additives in one vs another since each manufacturer adds different ingredients. So strange and this wouldn't have occurred to me if I hadn't seen this. Thanks!

I just switched to this pill from orth tricyclen about 3 weeks ago, and for the past few days I have had really bad itching in my armpits. I honestly did not think to link it to this new pill, since I had been on it for almost 3 weeks without noticing anything different. Also it was been very hot where I live lately, and for the past 2 weekends have been outside in the sun at football games, so do not know if sweating or a heat rash could be the cause of this, or if it is the pill switch...

Tri-Sprintec Allergy
I've been on Tri-Sprintec for several months, however, this month the packaging and appearance of the pills changed. I began the pack Monday and by Tuesday I developed a rash on my arms and legs. I took a Benedryl before bed, but spent the entire night scratching. When I woke up Wednesday, my legs and arms (including feet and hands) were covered in a SEVERE rash. I ended up going to the ER Wednesday night because it got so bad and welts developed on my face/back, along with an upper respiratory reaction. The ER gave me a shot of Benedryl and Prednisone. That solved the problem, but when I took the Tri-Sprintec again Thursday night, the rash reappeared. I contact my pharmacist who was unaware of any formula changes or other reports of this, but there no way it could be anything else. Glad to know I'm not the only one!

Hello, I'm so happy I found your post as I am having the same problem. I have been having itchiness all over my body- like a really bad sunburn! How long did you experience the itching for? Did you go to the doctor or just stop the pills on your own? Please write back! Would love some insight into this all!
