What is the purpose of celebrating October?:

The purpose of celebrating October is to educate all women about the importance of being aware about their breasts. The need to celebrate this month occurred after experiencing the worst effects of this cancer. In the developed countries this disease is affecting women more than undeveloped countries, but the risk is same for all women around the globe. Following reasons have been determined by researchers that cause this cancer

Age:

Your increasing age increases your risk of being affected by the disease. It does not mean that younger women can never develop breast cancer so women of all ages should be vigilant about breast health.

Family history:

A woman with family history of this cancer has double risk of developing it .If there is one close relative with this cancer risk has become doubled. In case of two close relatives the woman’s risk is more than double.

Genetic involvement:

Although, the ratio of genetically transferred cancer is not very high but still 5 to 10 % occur due to this reason.

Personal History:

A woman who has once gone through this trauma is at three to four times increased risk of developing breast cancer.

Ethnicity and race:

Your race and ethnicity contributes in increasing or decreasing your risk. White women are being affected by this cancer more than others; on the other hand more African American women die of this cancer.

Dense Breasts:

Dense breasts have more glandular tissues and less fatty tissues so the risk of developing breast cancer increases. This type of breasts is difficult to screen on mammogram.

Benign Conditions:

There are certain benign breast conditions that increase the risk of a woman to be affected by this disease.

Giving birth to children:

It's a natural process for every woman, so if any woman is not going through this process her risk of developing cancer increases.

Obesity:

Obesity enhances the risk of a woman to develop breast cancer. Being overweight of menopausal women is more harmful as their risk is already increased due to the age factor.

Alcohol intake:

Alcohol intake is directly linked to the increased risk of breast cancer according to the American Cancer Society. If a woman controls her intake or quit it completely her risk decreases.

Your breast cancer awareness is enhanced by knowing all these factors. This awareness needs to be enlightened on regular basis.
