The last day of my period was 2 weeks ago Sunday and this past Sunday I had sex with my husband and woke up Monday morning with a little bit of bright red blood on some toilet paper. I didn't think much of it cause it was just a little bit but since then it has gotten heavier and continues to be bright red blood. It is enough that I have to use a tampon. The spotting has been going on for 3 days now and shows little sign of improvement. I have regular periods and have never spotted between periods before. Should I be concerned?

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
Spotting or bleeding around midcycle time could suggest possibility of ovulation, breakthrough bleeding, hormonal imbalances, etc. Persisting lighter bleeding/spotting could also indicate pregnancy possibility. The exact cause can only be made out after careful evaluation. If the symptoms persist, you should consider visiting your doctor/gynecologist at the earliest for thorough examination and further evaluation to look for the underlying cause for the midcycle vaginal bleeding that you describe. Treatment as appropriate (based on examination findings and investigations results) would be started to help you control the bleeding and regulate your periods. Wait and watch for your periods. Look out for development of any other new symptoms if pregnancy is suspected. If periods do not start within 10 days of expected period dates, or if you get abnormal periods, or if you suspect chances of pregnancy, consider visiting your doctor/gynecologist at the earliest for thorough examination (to confirm pregnancy related changes/signs in body) and blood/serum HCG level test (to confirm/rule out pregnancy accurately). Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately.
Take care.
