I am having a lump removed on the top of my head in a few days, but i am now worrying that it could be something serious. It has been there for over 15 years, and i assumed it was a mole as it was quite small then, but in the last few months it has grown and is now very noticeable, like a large round shiny mole. It doesn't hurt and i don't have any other symptoms, but it bleeds if i catch it. Could it be skin cancer? And can it be removed and treated without further concerns? I have very fine hair and have often had a burnt scalp from being out in the sun. I am very freckley and have alot of other moles on my skin.

Hello,

Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am really glad to help you out. Your concern is regarding the removal of mole on head. First of all, a mole should be removed only if it is suspicious looking or suspicion of a melanoma is there.

Since you have burnt scalp after being out in the sun and also the bump bleeds on touch, so it is advisable to get a biopsy of the bump done as if it is a melanoma or a skin malignancy then it is better to identify it early.

I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
