This position is not as simple as it seems. First of all, fortunately, silent heart disease is less common than is here suggested. Indeed, one of the ways to protect ones health is never to ignore symptoms. The body often sends us symptoms that, unfortunately, are too often ignored. Routine screening on a regular basis is now being actively debated in medical circles, and the merit of such procedures is under discussion.
I certainly agree that cigarette smoking is anathema, that one should seek a proper weight, that blood cholesterol, LDL and sugar levels should be in the desirable ranges, that blood pressure should be normal, that regular exercise is important and that avoiding undue stress is desirable. And alcohol intake should be moderate.
