If you have respond to this question already please do not respond again. I am looking for other "women" who have had Rapid Heart Beat without sweating as a symptom of perimenopause! Thank you.....
Q: Perimenopausal?

I am a healthy (I hope) 45 1/2 year old woman that started her period at the age of 15. I have no children by choice, I have never used Birth Control pills or any medication. I also exercise daily and eat healthy as well as take vitamins and minerals like Cal.Mag Citrate 1000 mg fish oil 1000 mg vitamin C, Womens Mulitvitamin, Vitamin E 400IU.
I believe I am perimenopausal maybe you can help... I started in my late 30's with mid cycle spotting, that came and went. Now that I'm 45 1/2 I am noticing more symptoms. Moodiness, short tempered, anxious, tired, lightheaded at times, dizzy at times. Most recently I noticed my skin became increasingly dry. Also I have a few silver/gray chin and lip hairs. My sex drive isnt what it use to be, though its still there. My most recent symptom sent me to the dr. for a full blood work up. I woke for the very first time with Rapid heart beat no sweat just a RHB, scary. I have had it several times since always waking me from a sleep. I never sweat just wake a little shaken with a slow deep pound feeling in my heart then it starts beating so fast it IS really terrifying. I have never had this before. After my results below my Dr. sold me Progensa 20 by Allvia for low progesterone. I want to know if this is a normal perimenopause symptom? Can you advise with my symptoms and blood work results I would really appreciate it. Today is day 8 of my Progensa cream. Last night I woke twice with RHB both times only last 3-4 minutes first time was close to 1/2 hr. probably because I was terrified, not ever having this happen before. This is how it reads: Blood work done on day 14 I have a 32-34 day cycle
My Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) is <10 Units IU/mL REF is 0-34
Testosterone,Free,Direct is 0.7 Units pg/mL REF is 0.0-2.2
Progesterone is 0.7 Units ng/mL REF not shown
Estradiol is 131 Units pg/mL REF is 19-528
TSH T4F T3Free
TSH is 1.553 Units uIU/mL REF is 0.450-4.500
Triiodothyronine,Free,Serum is 3.4 Units pg/mL REF is 2.3-4.2
T4,Free(Direct) is 1.28 Units ng/dL REF is 0.61-1.76
Any information would be appreciated. I tried to give as much info as possible. Do you think I am perimenopausal and do you think with my results I am using the correct thing Progesterone cream? I refuse to take Synthetic hormones I have seen bad things happen with friends and good things happen with Bioidentical hormones with friends that have been on Progesterone creams for up to 20 years.

Thank you,
Susan

You are definitely in menapause. The rapid heart beat is a sign of it, and will probably come and go on and off through your life. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about if you had your heart checked out by your doctor. I still get them now and then. they just come out of the blue, last for a few minutes, then go away. I know many women who get them. I started menoapuse at 35 with the exact same symptoms as you, and also thinning hair, itchy skin, headaches, burning stomach. They all come and go. I didn't do any hormones at all, because of the risk of breast cancer, and I made it through with no problem. As long as you recognize that these are symptoms of menopause, then you will be fine. try just relaxing when they come, breathe deeply, and they will pass. Sometimes even coughing hard will stop them.

Have either of you experienced two periods in one month during pre-menopause? I have all the symptoms as well but my doctor says I shouldn't be bleeding more, but less. What are your thoughts?

Are you kidding me? I got two in a month, then would skip a month or two, then another two, it was all over the board! And some were so heavy, then others hardly anything! Your doctor is wrong. My sister's doctor told her she wasn't even going through menopause because she started so young (36). He was from the old school. Our mother was all done at 42, and we both finished at 45. Go figure!

I don't understand why he thinks it's not premenopause. I told him I have the hot flashes and waking up in a sweat. I had heart palpatations last night so bad that I couldn't sleep, horrible insomnia, etc. No energy! He has been my GYN for 20 years and delivered both my kids. I'm going to see how the ultrasound comes out and then it's time for a second opinion. Maybe I need to find a female doctor that will listen. He refused to take blood because my insurance won't pay for the well check and blood work for menopause in the same visit. Such bull! One concern was that my cervix was all closed and I had a lot of pain when he examined me. I'll find out soon enough. Thanks

Hi Raven53

Thank you for your response. I am glad someone answered like you. Some people just want to lend an opinion. I needed to hear from "A Woman" whom has experienced this mess like I do. It is the pits. I am an athletic woman and run on the treadmill daily never any problems, though I have a fear in the back of my mind that this will happen while on the treadmill. It is that terrifying, always in the back of your mind. Do you have any idea on Estradiol numbers? As mine was 131 I am wondering what that means, do you know? You have no idea how appreciative I am you answered. The other lady Wendyrs, I had really bad rapid heart beat last night. I really think when you consume too much sugar versus Protein, it really makes things a lot worse. I did start using the progesterone cream and truly I may have RHB once every 3 weeks now, I will only use the cream for 6 months just to kick start things. I don't blame you for not wanting to use HRT, I wouldn't either thats why I went this path. ITS NOT THE SAME though uneducated women think it is, it's not. Being a health nut I would never put anything into my body to cause that deadly cancer. Again I so appreciate your imput, it means a lot : ) Write back

HI Wendyrs
I have never had two periods in one month personally, but I have known women who do. I can tell you that, that was a question my doctor asked me due to my Low Progesterone. The Doctor stated the reason some women do have two periods is the Lack of Progesterone. Progesterone actually is what holds things in place, when your pregnant to prevent miscarriage. If there isn't enough progesterone you cannot ovulate this can cause the lining to grow and become thick making the periods very heavy or more then one in a month. This is the time we can become anemic. If you do or do not like (Liver) you should make yourself eat it, two periods in a month is reason to eat liver : ) I personally do not love it, but, I would eat it.
When you stated you have Palpitations are you meaning it feels like your heart skips beats, (as mine has done for two days off and on) or does your heart race? My heart actually RACES, unbelievable! It is the scariest thing I have EVER ENDURED. I wish someone in my family would have forewarned me of things that "could" happen this time of our lives, just to have it happen one night while I was fast asleep not knowing what it was, OMG, I was terrified.
Hope to hear back from you,
Sofea

Sofea, It is terrifying to have your heart suddenly start racing. Sometimes I feel it's going to jump right out of my chest. I also suffer from anxiety so I've learned to live with this. The hot flashes is what really started bothering me. I haven't had liver in over 20 years. I'm not too sure if I can tolerate eating liver...It'll be interesting to see what the doc says on Friday. I'm going to make sure he takes my blood this time. Thanks!

Make sure the Doctor does a FULL blood panel. If your not going to a doctor that believes in Natural BHRT, be careful they are uneducated and tell all of their patients its the same as HRT, they couldn't be further from the truth. I get so tired of uneducated doctors. Since the scare of HRT, they are now telling there patients Progesterone cream is the same as Progestin, THEY COULDN'T be more wrong. I can email you websites from Doctors that tell it like it is, they are actually trying to get more modern day doctors to take coarses on BHRT so they can learn how to save us women. When you have your blood test done Insist the doctor give a copy of your report, (you paid for it) some just tell us we are in the normal ranges, that sounds so dumb.... Of course we its called Perimenopause. Normal to them means your as low as every woman your age! Make sure you have a Thyroid, TSH T2, T3 and T4 as well as Testosterone, Progesterone, and Estradiol. The biggie for Thyroid is TPO. Get back with your results. by the way did you give your age? Do you have children? By the way I have had Anxiety too, but I have NEVER had Rapid Heart Beat, I'm with you its scary. How long have you had it?

Hi Sofea! All I can tell you is, I started menopause at 35, I got my first period at 12, and have had two children, one at 17, and the other at 22. My periods were horrible. Cramping, clotting, bloating, and more blood that a stabbing victim! When I started the change, I developed the dry skin, and my periods were all over the place. Sometimes two a month, sometimes skipping a month or two, heavy, light, a real fun time! I never knew what was going to happen from one month to the next! My hair thinned out, I had insomnia, but not too many hot flashes, thank goodness! And heartburn sometimes is another symptom. The heart palpitations and racing would come ever now and then. It used to scare me, but after talking to different women who all get it too, now I just breath my way through them. I finished menopause at 45, so it took ten years to complete. I don't know about the estradiol numbers. I went to the doctor at the beginning of my change, and he said yes, I had started, and if I needed anything for the symptoms he would give me a perscription. He wanted me to go on hormones, but I told him no way. I am not a pill taker anyway. So I got through it on just the occasional tylenol, or whatever I had handy, but compared to the periods I used to get, menopause was a cakewalk for me! Now I am 56, and once in a while, I still get an occasional cramp in my ovaries, and the heart palpitations, but as long as the doctor says my heart is fine, I am not going to worry about it. I also had a friend who had them and they gave her all kinds of tests, and found nothing. Just turned out to be anxiety mixed with her other change symptoms. So you might have alittle stress from the change plus the worry, that is causing yours. As for my sister, she had a different doctor, and many of them, especially men, had a hard time believing that we were starting menopause so early. They were all trained that you had to be in your late 40s to 50's to be going through menopause. Guess what? Not true! Women are getting younger and younger. I was only on birth control for about 2 years, and they started giving me migranes, so I went off them and after my second child was born, had my tubes tied. It's such a strange time of life. Some women have a terrible time going through menopause, and others sail through. Some let it get them depressed because they think it makes them less of a woman, or lowers their sex drive. I was thrilled to be done with periods, and had no problem with the "other" either! So, you just have to take it day by day, and soon it will be over. But if you still get the heart racing, just make sure from your doctor that your heart is strong and good, and try not to stress over it. That's about all we can do. Let's face it, when our numbers up, it's up. No use worrying! Life is short enough, so enjoy!

Sounds like you've had quite the ordeal! Glad its over for you. Doctors do not know everything they are trained to "practice" medicine some think they know it all.. My mother was 63 when she finally stopped having her period, can you believe it 63 when she went into full menopause. Her mother was 37. My Mom had 7 children, all girls no less : ) but, 3 of my sisters had there equipment removed Sad due to if you can believe this Fibroids. I would have never done that but, you can tell some people what to do. All of them are through with it, they don't remember what symptoms they had, yeah right, you wouldn't forget this... Myself I have never taken BC pills as they are the same thing as HRT, Mom always warned against them, thank you Mom. Mom is almost 85 last time she was in the hospital I was born, thats right 45 almost 46 years ago. Mom only remembers having her face feel really hot and sticky. Thats about it. But my Mom is a heavier thick woman. Myself I am tall and thin, my Doctor did say Women that are not over weight have a much harder time with more intense symptoms. I know women that are on the heavier side and they sailed right through so maybe there IS truth to that. The only thing I cannot handle is the RHB, the doctor I went to is Holistic he is alongside an OBGYN they work together with each patient. They too do NOT believe HRT giving out BC pills, etc. Love the doctors. They did tell me to go to a cardiologist to make sure, but I didn't, trust me if it were my heart, I would be dead right now. I run on my treadmill 6 MPH for 1 1/2 M daily. Funny thing is it only happens at night, I remember one time waking with my chest wet and between my boobs, (sorry, I hate calling them anything else). When I get the RHB first I wake then I start thinking OH NO, I feel it coming on slow hard beats that go like your flooring your gas pedal in the car until they reach Scare me to death BPM usually over within 5 maybe 10 minutes if I am really scared, afterward my body trembles but I never sweat this is why I questioned it being hormonal but, when I got my results back and seen what my levels are versus the normal range, they are low. Since starting the progesterone cream, they have calmed down a bit. So I will try to enjoy :{ its tuff though.., this isn't funny but it is; the first time this happened, so unexpectedly I woke my husband and told him I think I am dying or something, we were both scared, I wanted him to take me to the hospital but, he stayed with me keeping me as calm as can be, then eventually it passed. It took about 30 minutes to pass I think it was because Adrenaline and Anxiety kicked in, its terrifying, now I know why some women are so crazy in stores and on the road.
Take care!

Wow! You have some story! Your poor mother had her period until her 60's? Good Lord! You're right, doctors don't know everything. The few times I have had to go to one, they never helped me with anything. I learned to help myself with exercise and eating right. YThere is something to that theory of heavier women having an easier time though. I am not thin, but really not heavy either and 5'6. I want to lose a few pounds but I carry alot of weight in the bust. I know they claim that women who are thin get brittle bones easier. It's a good thing you are active. So am I. I walk on the treadmill for 3040 minutes three times a week, and sometimes try to run, but I am big busted, so that's not much fun hitting myself in the face! I also cut about an acre of grass with a hand mower twice a week in the spring and summer. I'm a real work horse! My neighbors think I am nuts, because I work like a man. We have a riding mower, but I prefer to use the push, so I get a good workout, plus, alot of our land is sloped so I have to push the mower uphill! No wonder I get palpitations!
The best thing to do is stay calm and try not to stress about the change. It's rough enough without adding anxiety to the mix, even though it's hard not to. It seems like so long ago it started for me. But the day my periods finally stopped, was one of the best days of my life. You'll be joining the ranks soon, never fear! Hey aren't those chin hairs a bi-ch? I get hair now every place but my head!
Have a good night!

Your Funny!!
Trust me you're not the only big chest woman, I may be 5'8" but, I have a big chest. Thats all though.... Long legs not an ounce of fat on them. If I gain weight its my boobs Smile
Last night I was really proud of myself, I got out of bed went to the kitchen, scared but, made myself get up;got some water sat on the sofa waited for it to pass. Went back to bed, tried to calm down, got a little tremble and it was over. Did you get the shakes after RHB too? I think if it was my heart I wouldn't tremble afterward. Its just tough when its happening to try and relax, cause you ALWAYS wonder if it really is hormonal, somehow I get through it.
Push mower huh? I hope you don't live in the midwest where its humid as he** I am in Californa, lifelong. Love it!! Oh and a thanx for bringing up the ole chin hairs. I hate that! They are a BI let me tell ya! How long does this last? Keep in mind I have only had the RHB for 3 months MAX, maybe happened a total of 6 times...I must have been in perimenopause in my mid to late 30's the first symptom ever for me was mid cycle spotting, that scared me:) Everything is meant to terrify us......... I have never missed a peroid I still have them every 32-34 days, once in a while it goes a little longer. Speaking of big boobs mine have been sore for the lst 3 WEEKS! Will go away once I start Smile If you get a chance get Suzanne Somers Book "Breakthrough 8 steps to wellness" its incredible, Every Woman needs a copy its an eye opener!

Hi Sofea! Good for you on calming yourself down. That's about all we can do when we get those nasty symptoms of menopause. No, I never got the shakes from RHB, but sometimes I just get them after too much coffee and no food.
The hair thing will be with us till we die now. Keep the tweezers and razor handy! That's my biggest fear...having to go to the hospital, lying there really sick, growing a beard. I gave my daughter and sister strict instructions to shave or pluck anything anywhere it doesn't belong if I am in a coma!

I live in NY, and we get humidity too! Today was a killer cutting the grass! I think I sweat off about 5 pounds! Love California...my brother used to live there.

Funny you should mention Suzanne Somers. My son is working with her company selling a new drink she is marketing. It's supposed to be great.

You have a good night, and try to keep the old ticker nice and quiet! See you around the forum!

Hi Sofea, So I got a call today from my doctor's office telling me that my blood work was negative. Yesterday I went for a mammo and I have a very large mass in my breast. The tech told me and also showed it to me. About 3 years ago I had some cysts and after taking one test after the other I stopped going for awhile. Lost insurance, had other issues...Now I have this mass that is almost the size of my breast and they aren't small. You asked my age..I'm 44 and I have two sons 18 and 19,almost 20. I guess they will have to do a biopsy to see what this mass really is. I also don't know what to make of my menopause symptoms since I do have the hot flashes, insomnia, and I didn't get my period twice this month again so far but I've had horrible cramps. The doc also told me that the test may come out negative for menopause since it's just the beginning. I don't know what to think anymore. Any thoughts?? Could my menopause symptoms be the signs of breast cancer??

Glad to hear back from you. First of all, what blood work? What did they do? Do you have a copy of it? If not I suggest you get it! Have them email/fax or mail it to you, or pick it up if your close enough. Not sure where you are located? A large mass does not mean CANCER, usually when its a large mass, by now if its cancer it hurts. I'm sure the tech did show and tell you, they want to prepare you for the Mammogram, DON'T ever have MAMMOGRAMS! I'm dead serious. They Miss more cancer then anything, besides why would you allow them to put unneccessary Radiation in your body, no matter what the doctor says trust me its too much radiation we have enough toxins our air and enviroment. Radiation can actually make cancer grow. Yearly Mammos are nonsense! Most women have bumps cysts Fibrocystic breasts! I do! I found my first lump at age 29 my doctor then didnt even tell me because he said there was no need to add fear to a woman for no reason he stated 98% of his patients had them and they never turn into anything, and never mess with them unless the're bothering you or cancer. My lump is painful sometimes more then others during my cycle. I am now almost 46 and its still there, he recommend me to leave them alone. I did, I'm fine! I would never allow a biopsy ask them to do an Ultra Sound, this is what they will do anyway after the Mammogram, "IF" you let them do one.
There is nothing to make of the symptoms of menopause just have to deal with them. You have symptoms that are very common, VERY COMMON! The breast thing is not about menopause it probably is about hormones that is why it is so important to know what your TSH All of the Ts are Progesterone, testosterone, and Estradiol. YOU have to get this info. I wish there was a way I could post my email without the world seeing it, I would then give you my phone number too, so we can talk, its easier. Is there breast cancer in your family? Is this why your worried about it? I know the mass is enough of its on.. I suggest you get Suzanne Somers book 8 Steps to Wellness, it is important I think ALL women should have this book. I purchased one for each of my Female family members at Christmas time. They all love it and learned a lot. (Suzanne speaks in her book about the 22 years she took birth control pills, which she and her doctor now believe is the reason for her breast cancer) (which are synthetic made the same way as HRT) the bad synthetic hormone replacement therapy the stuff doctors gave to women to almost kill them, well it did kill alot of women! By the way in Suzanns book she discussed having mammograms and the doctors missing her cancer every time, it was found on an ultra sound. Get her book. It is worth the 18. it costs. I wish we could talk on the phone it would sure be easier.
Take care and write back in case I missed something. I have never and will never have a Mammogram! My mother is almost 84 she hasnt either and never has had health problems probably due to no BC pills or Synthetic HRT!
Write back
