Q: is there risk taking laxitives while on the birth control pill?

hi there i am just wondering if it is safe to be taking laxitives when i am on the pill?? (to stop me from getting pregnant)?? I havent taken them yet so am wanting to find out if it is safe before i do so.. thanks alot for your help simone

Laxatives can reduce the effectiveness of the birth control pill because they can cause the pill to go through the system too quickly for enough hormone to be absorbed. Perhaps you should consider using a stool softener, which will make it easier to use the bathroom without flushing everything out of your digestive tract so quickly.
