clarification about hiv pcr dna test , i hear a lot of conflicting things about the pcr test ... i know there are two types of pcr test , qualitative ( dna pcr ) and quantitative (rna pcr ) , they say that the rna pcr test can detect the virus with 7 days or a week after the exposure , and the dna pcr test can detect after 14 of exposure ...so i dont know if my pcr test was an rna or a dna test .. please interpret
my pcr test result which was done after 9 to 10 days of exposure says hiv 1 dna - not detected
hiv 2 dna - not detected
so my question is , is my test an rna or dna pcr test .. and is this result valid and conclusive hiv negative ?

Hello, and thanks for your medical question on e health forum.

You have undergone a HIV DNA PCR test, the result of which was NEGATIVE.

The HIV DNA PCR gives a positive result within 7-14 days of exposure.

This is a conclusive test and has a 100% sensitivity, which means that this is a VALID RESULT and YOU ARE HIV NEGATIVE.

You might consider to consult your doctor if you have any persisting doubts for reassurance and proper clarification.

I Hope this helps.
