heya, ok right i have had my golden labradour for nearly 11-12 years now! i am 18, and i love my dog very much. But recently he has been loosing ALOT of his fur, and i mean LUMPS! and he does not seem himself. Now to be honest my parents are in the middle of a break up Sad sob sob Sad and i have read on the internet that dogs do know and can sense when a family is in distress or when there are problems. . . Now it could be this. . or just old age. . but i would like some one else opinions if ye would please,

Thank you guys.

It could be stress or an underlying medical condition.

Best way to find out is to take him to the vet.

I hope it is nothing serious....

Our pets can sense when something is wrong. If I was not feeling well...my cat (now deceased) would be very attentive towards me.

Hope all turns out well....

I'm not sure... I would say it might be that he had mange-but you took his to the vet... so I dunno. But I hope he gets better!

my mom and her golden were inseperable when she went to the store so did she. my mom commited suicide in 91 and my dog or her dog soon followed its true they mourn when we do. just show her all the attention you can take her riding and to parks to take her away from the source of what might be her pain but you cant rule out anything medical if it gets worse losing weight and attitude change take her to the vet. good luck

11-12 years is the lifespan of labs and this would be a good time to make a vet appointment. There are a few reasons for dogs to lose clumps of fur and without any knowledge of his lifestyle or health, I can't dole out advice. Your vet will know best about what is going on with him right now and when dogs reach a certain age, they should be seeing a vet once or twice a year.
Dogs do know when something is amiss. They can smell shifts in your hormones as your emotions change and they're very sensitive to changes in the household. Older dogs are especially sensitive to change after living a certain life for so long. The truth is though, that your dog is in his geriatric stage of life and his health should be prioritized above all else. Despite what is going on, your dog would likely have the same or similar conditions just because of his age. Take him to the vet and be prepared, as prepared as one can be, to hear anything.

I would bring him to a second vet for a second opinion. also...I have an older dog that I put frontline on for years and she developed an allergy to something in it..she lost alot of fur...but she did lick and itch alot. She still had issues but less after switching brands but the vet did say she developed an allergy to fleas also alot of older dogs do he said...when dogs have frontline, any monthly flea type med like that on..fleas still bite so make sure ur yard and house are treated if that is the case...i had to treat my yard...the fleas still bite and then die and cant hatch on your dog..does your dog have any rash or itching etc
